Maybe Miles is waiting on Rich Rod to get sh!tcanned before he offers him the OC position at LSU and fires the Crow. :hihi:
Ok, so if Michigan decides to go after Miles or Harbaugh, and ends Rich Rod's assignment (ha, that's what I tell people when I have to fire them) they will do so after the Bowl Game. I think we will be ok, because the economy in Michigan is crap, and if they are waiting until after the bowl game to save 1.5 million dollars, why would they pay for Miles buyout, unless they are going to use that 1.5 to go towards his buyout. This is kind of getting scary because if they do come after Les, and Les decides to leave, it's going to be after their bowl game and then we are screwed. What would LSU do if Les leaves so late in the season?
Very good point, and as I have said several times, be careful what you wish for you just might get it. Aimed at those that would want Miles gone. As made apparent by UF the coaching pool for the big fish schools may not be as deep as many of us would like to believe. That said, I don't believe Miles is going anywhere. Miles may be a lot of things, but the one thing that he has that I like a lot is his integrity. He has addressed this issue, and made it clear that he is happy where he is and isn't going anywhere. Unlike his, non answer as to the future of Crowton. I just don't believe that Miles would outright lie to the LSU faithful about his own intentions. If his staying was up for debate he would have been more evasive in his answer.
Rich Rodriguez is about halfway through this incredibly awkward period of limbo as Michigan’s football coach – 18 days since the Ohio State loss in the regular-season finale, 17 until the Gator Bowl against Mississippi State on Jan. 1. Athletic director Dave Brandon and his tight inner circle haven’t revealed the direction the program plans to take. Brandon simply says he’ll evaluate Rodriguez after the bowl game. To some, that indicates Rodriguez has become a dead man walking. Why would Brandon handcuff his coach on the recruiting trails for more than a month if he planned to bring him back? There are theories that Brandon already has reached a back-channel agreement with Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh and is waiting until after the bowls to make it official. That way, both teams get to finish their seasons with their current coaches and Michigan saves $1.5 million because the buyout in Rodriguez’s contract goes down Jan. 1. Some, however, believe Harbaugh’s true desire is to coach in the NFL, more so than at his alma mater. And still others are convinced Harbaugh covets the Michigan job, but the university's top officials don't want him because of his ego and some past incidents, including a DUI arrest and his negative comments about the U-M athletic department's academic standards. In other words, speculation is all over the place, mainly because Brandon isn’t tipping his hand. Not just to the media, but to those around him. If Brandon makes a move, most assume it will be to bring in someone with Michigan ties. Barring a surprise candidate (never rule that out), the obvious top choices come down to Harbaugh, San Diego State’s Brady Hoke and LSU’s Les Miles.
HIRE MILES PROS: Miles has proven he can win at the highest level with an 61-17 record at LSU, including a national championship after the 2007 season. Miles lettered as an offensive lineman at Michigan in 1974-75, was a graduate assistant in ’80-81 and then the offensive line coach for the Wolverines from ’87-94. CONS: Michigan went down this road in 2007, with a report that Miles had even accepted the job, only to leave both sides looking bad in the end when it didn’t happen. Not everyone was real fond of Miles when he was in Ann Arbor. He can be defiant and outspoken. He certainly doesn’t coach by the book. However, some of his boldest calls have paid off, partly because of good luck many times. Is the luck in those situations about to run out for “The Mad Hatter?” If so, you might be looking at an ordinary coach. The RichRod limbo: How low -- or high -- can you go? If his luck runs out?? What is this guy talking about ? He is 61-17 in the SEC over 6 years because he is lucky and if that luck runs out he will only be a ordinary coach. really!!!!
Do you really think Miles would leave LSU after the bowl in Michigan came calling? Friday December 17, 2010 11:46 TigerMo 11:49 Yes. Absolutely. Michigan is home. His No. 1 dream job. I've been convinced of that for four years, when Kathy Miles stood there in the postgame news conference at the SEC Championship Game with tears in her eyes and told me, "I'm proud of Les. He put the team ahead of his personal dream." That dream is to coach at Michigan and I don't think the last three years have changed anything. The question remains do they want him as much as he wants to coach there? The conventional wisdom says if they fire Rich Rodriguez they will hire Jim Harbaugh or at least make him the first offer. But as you know, coaching searches rarely go as expected. Did you expect Will Muschamp to be the new coach at Florida? I didn't. So it's impossible to predict, but I think if offered the Michigan job, Miles would take it. He is, above all, a Michigan man forever.
he has to also take into consideration that if he doesn't turn that program around, a program that is totally different than the one he would run, in about 3 years, his dream job is over.
Cliff, I know you have this deep fear that Miles is leaving at the end of the season, but let me try to put your mind at ease. One of the many things that Miles does have is honor and integrity. With that I do not believe that Miles would lie to Tiger Nation. He has made it clear, he didn't give a coach speak answer, he didn't give an open answer.
