I definitely think that is a fair question. The 1st strategy of crisis management is to stretch out the time needed for a decision. If the alumni were fuming over the NCAA violations then the AD might just be stretching the time out to calm them down. Rodriguez's banquet speech was pathetic, though. That was a classic lesson in how not to handle a crisis.
And the beatdowns by OSU can't be discounted, either. Yep, great example of what not to do. I got it that RichRod is an emotional guy, but his speech came off as groveling.
Rich Rod's a goner. You maybe want a coach who fought his way back from cancer or HIV or parkinsons or something to show up at a banquet and sing Josh Groban with his wife, but you don't want a guy who is supposed to have turned your program around, to come out sing Josh Groban, and grovel for his job. That was pathetic, and it's a sign of weakness. In my opinion, Rich Rod is through.
yep This is the bottom line ! Michigan is in trouble and when you get in BIG trouble we all run back to our base. When you are little you run home to mom and dad. When you are in business you run back to what you know works. At Michigan they want to go back to Bo and that means 2 and only 2 people that I know. I think #1 will go pro and that leaves #2 which hurts me as a LSU guy but if you don't think that people don't talk through 3rd parties to line this stuff up you don't have a clue. Will Harbaugh come to Michigan? This is the million-dollar question in Ann Arbor these days. If he wants to stay in college, there’s no way he goes anywhere other than Michigan. It’s one of the top 10 college football gigs in America and has to be a dream job for an alum that’s from Ann Arbor, played under Bo Schembechler and whose father coached there. For what it’s worth, Harbaugh said when he was hired at Stanford that he had no desire to be an NFL coach. But if he was being less than honest, it certainly wouldn’t be the first time a college football coach talked out of both sides of his mouth. Plus, his opinion could have changed in the last four years. The pull of the NFL will be strong for Harbaugh, who has already proven himself in the college ranks and must be enticed by the success his brother has had with the Ravens. Many in the media just assume he’s headed to the pros because that’s where all egomaniac college coaches go (Nick Saban, anyone?). Plus, two of the most high-profile jobs in the league will likely be available come January: The San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. San Francisco is just up the road from Palo Alto and there will be a great selection of quarterbacks in next year’s NFL Draft to build his franchise around. As for the Cowboys, if they decide not to retain Jason Garrett, who can say no to Jerry Jones’ truck-load of money and coaching America’s Team? Do you really think that if this AD was going to fire his coach on Jan 2 that he would not have Harbaugh or Les in the bag and ready to go??? It's a done deal and either Les is going because Harbaugh turned it down or Harbaugh is heading home. #1 - will RR get fired ? I think it is 90/10 he will #2 - will Harbaugh take the job 50/50 #3 - will Les take the job if offered - 90/10 he will that is my take on the deal
If miles bolts for the Michigan job do you think chevis gets a chance to interview for the lsu head coaching job? I love the heart he puts into his work and he has done a super job bringing the defense back from the brink. He would be no bigger a risk than what Florida or vanderbuilt has taken in their hires of offensive co with no head coaching experience. I would rather see the chief as hc than lsu hire rich rod per say. You could bet that his offense would be smash mouth like his defense has been. I would not be disapointed with a chevis hire. Hope miles stays and crowton goes though.

Or could it be because in the last two weeks between the regular season and the start of bowl-game practices, the team is all off taking final exams and the coaches are all out in the field recruiting? I bet it seems quiet around there. Somebody who really wants Miles and Crowton gone is an insider in the football department? On what planet does that happen?
Brady Hoke: The San Diego State football coach, a hot commodity right now, told his school’s president that ultimately, he hopes his career takes him to the University of Michigan. He might get it sooner than expected. Michigan saves $1.5 million if it fires coach Rich Rodriguez after the Jan. 1 Gator Bowl. The speculation seems to be win or lose, Rodriguez is gone, and Michigan will then make a run at Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh. If he passes (my guess is he does), Hoke’s their guy. It took six years for Hoke to get Ball State to 12-1; in year two at SDSU, the Aztecs are 8-4. [Union Tribune]
