I thought about Kentucky but even though Kentucky is SEC and Louisville is CUSA the Kentucky football program is not even as good as Louisville. Maryland is such a small state that the football team must surely get most of their players from out of state. Illinois does have both the U of I and Northwestern. Northwestern for years was like the Vanderbilt of the Big 10/11 but they did come up with a couple of good years before Coach Gary Barnett left for greener pastures. I also might have mentioned Pennsylvania. Even though Penn State has been down the last couple of years and Pittsburgh has a decent team this year Penn State in most years skims the cream of the recruits in football talent rich Pennsylvania. Two notable exceptions: Pennsylvania natives Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino who both played for Pittsburgh. Interesting fact: Until recently Tony Dorsett was the all time leading points scorer in college football history. Pistol Pete Maravich is the all time leading points scorer in college basketball history. Both Tony Dorsett and Pete Maravich were born in Alliquipa, PA.
Ohio St . has the MAC schools! They play good football in the MAC not like the other schools in Louisiana. It is LSU or out of state for top LA. talent.
For the same reasons other densely populated Southern states--Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee--produce so much talent: FOOTBALL IS KING IN THE SOUTH! You don't find standing room only crowds in stadiums outside of the South. However, I will point this out, too. We have the right weather. I remember having high school baseball tryouts in January. Can people in Michigan do the same? Name one snow game played in Louisiana high school football history. We have the right environment coupled with the passion for sports down here.
Its not that I think it, it is true. I saw a list of how many La kids are now in the NFL, and we were like 4th or 5th, and we dont have near the population as the states ahead of us
conrad your right. we have the most per capita in the nfl and like ramah said we have the most d1 signees per capita. the rason we produce a lot is the passion for sports in the south and unlike a lot of states most of your good athletes play because they are idolized here unlike up north.
Mississippi generates a good bit of HS talent also and believe it or not a good many of them go to either USM or out of state schools. LSU does a good bit of recruiting in MS. They were at the 5A HS championship game in Jackson this year looking at a South Panola Tiger running back and an Oak Grove defensive player. MOST of the folks around USM and south MS are LSU fans. I went to USM and I have always been a HUGE LSU fan. Yeah I agree if they just stay close to home there is a world of available talent.
