I have no doubt that you'll beat me to it. I respect that about you. Considering the SEC, I think we nearly beat Bama last year, and could've very well beaten UF with any offense whatsoever. Ole Miss, we SHOULD'VE beaten. Everyone else, we did beat. I think if we're gonna both agree we'll be improved from last year, then I don't understand where .500 comes from. Specifically, I see us improving on offense. No way it's gonna be worse. And on defense, I see us about the same...hopefully improving throughout the season to be better than last season. I don't see ANY of the teams that we lost to last year being better this year than last, and we both agree LSU should be better this year than last. That's where my confusion comes from with your .500 prediction. I see Arky as a one sided team, and it so happens that they're a mainly passing team. By the time we play them, our secondary should be second to none...so I see that in our favor. The reason I assumed schedule is because I don't see us getting worse in conference, I don't see the others getting better, so I had to assume you're talking about losing to UNC and WVU.
I think everything has been blown way out of proportion. LSU has been at their absolute worst these past 2 years, if we are talking the past decade that is. Even at our lowest point last year, Bama struggled to TAKE THE LEAD from us and UF only mustered up 13 points. We then went on to lose another 2 games by a grand total of 4 points... Yes, major malfunctions existed last year and they were really major, but how much worse could it have been? Honestly, I dont think it could have gotten any worse. So with that, seeing our worst and still managing to keep it a close game vs the #1&2 teams in the country is pretty badass.. Basically, we are that crazy Viking guy that is 8 feet tall and takes 200 men to kill.. I like our chances this year... :LSU231:
Fine, just remember when Bama has another 8 or 9 win year (and they will as all teams do) then they are mediocre. Bama has no one to blame but itself for going on probation.
I am not gonna say that I don't have similar expectations as many other LSU fans, but I think to demand, not just an appearance in, but a victory of the SECCG is expecting too much to have Miles regain your trust. If we have a 10+ win season and win our bowl I will be satisfied. An appearance in the SECCG would obviously do wonders, and winning it all would be the ultimate, but I can see other factors that may prevent those 2 from happening that wouldn't influence my opinion negatively towards Miles. I can see that should Bama reach the SECCG again, that wouldn't settle well with LSU nation, but what if, and not that it'll happen, but what if we beat Bama, and it is Ark, OM or Auburn that takes the SECW. What if we are 10-2 in the reg season, but have beaten 2 out of that 4, but it still isn't good enough to win the west. My point is, for me we don't have to win it all to have me be happy with Miles and the coaching staff, but if we are in every game, if we win at least 2 out of the 4 monkey on our backs games (Bama and UF being the top 2), if we end up with a 10+ win or better season, and if we win our bowl game, that will live up to my expectations. Granted I would love nothing more than to at least win the SEC, I just don't expect that to have Miles regain my confidence.
SEC games the last two years: 8 and 8. Mediocre: average, ordinary, moderate, middling, fair, commonplace.
Fallacy. Neither one of those years were mediocre. 2008 was bad, and 2009 was good. Would you still consider both years mediocre had we gone 0-8 in 2008 and 8-0 in 2009? That is still 8-8 over two years, which seems to be your only argument.
