We did not do the Hot Springs, but my husband and daughters raftd the Animas River. We drove to Silverton, which was the scariest highway I have ever been on...bar none.
Drove that road all the way to Ouray and you are right it's the scariest other than a road in Canada I was on once. Ouray is where 90% of the hippies in Colorado dropped out to. You could get high just walking down the street and that's before it was legal. A guy tried to pick up my wife at a bar right in front of me. He was so stoned I let him try my wife got a kick out of it.
