I read this last night...after moving my older daughter out of her dorm at the University of North Texas. The dorm houses over 1000 freshmen, and it was like a ghost town...depressing. Anyway, I read this and found it interesting. Starting around Christmas, I was having sciatic nerve pain in my right leg that was getting progressively worse, so I was self-medicating with Advil. One day, near the end of January, I went into anaphylaxis while teaching my first period class...hives, difficulty breathing, etc. I went to my school nurse who had me drink Benadryl and administered an epi injection. I was sent to the hospital and spent several hours receiving IV meds. Three days later, on Super Bowl Sunday, the same thing happened with a return trip to the ER. I had taken Advil that morning, but haven't taken it or any NSAIDS since. Not being able to take Advil, my sciatic pain became unbearable, and I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my lower back. I have physical therapy again this afternoon, and I hope they will still be open because I am finally (after an epidural injection, acupuncture, and traction) feeling much better. I had taken Advil forever. Was I carrying CV and that was my reaction to it? Who knows? With all of that being said, I am kicked back on my couch after getting out of bed at 12:30 because school is out...so far for just this week, but who am I kidding? I don't know if we will see our students again this school year. I agree with others who are saying that they can't believe that we are tanking our economy and way of life willingly. This whole thing is scary to me because of how willing people are for the government to mandate that we shut down everything. Many are almost begging for us to be ordered not to leave our homes. We are starting down a very slippery slope.
Yes you make some good points, ... and I’m not trying to set up a blue state red state contest, just observing, but I can’t help but wonder about the quality of leadership in NY. They are now up to 2300 cases, up 1000 cases since yesterday, and the day ain’t over. I’m just saying, in the delicate balance of concerns between medical necessity, economic viability, and “social justice” in a case like this, social justice had better take a back seat. To boot, New Yorkers thinking the laws of nature don’t apply to them are finding out that the Virus don’t give a shit about your virtue signaling, ..... be as virtuous as you like, but if you get exposed, it will gladly set up shop in your lungs. And granted, reporting bias could be contributing ... as in, the numbers are skyrocketing because of cases that already existed but just weren’t confirmed.
Reports from Italy are that it “appears” that ibuprofen may be worse, but it is strictly anecdotal. So much misinfo floating around. Just curious, my Mom still lives in Plano, .... any active cases floating around? Hope ur back gets to feeling better.
Seriously, get hold of some good ganja. I promise you it will help you with the pain. You could try legal CBD oil but it's not as effective as the real thing. You may prefer vaping. It delivers the punch in greater concentration for immediate relief. If you don't know anybody your daughters will know where to get it.
Collin County is only reporting 8 or 9 active cases, with 60 or so being monitored. However, a 64-year-old Plano man died this morning in a local hospital. It was the same old story about underlying medical conditions; in fact, it sounds like he was in the hospital for the underlying conditions and may have been tested posthumously? That is the way the news article read. Things are shutting down quickly here, and as I said, I just hope my physical therapy location stays open because I am finally getting range of motion back with much less pain. Currently, I am listening to my daughter talking with her best friend, who just moved her shit out of UT yesterday. They are both busy unpacking. My 9th grade daughter is sitting at her desk in her room, happily painting a canvas. A lot of people are claiming their kids are bored, but mine have been fine, albeit they are 18 and 15 and can find activities to amuse themselves more easily. School will be starting up for both of them next week--online.
At the height of my pain a few weeks ago, I most certainly would've tried anything for pain relief. I may be naive, but I am pretty sure that neither daughter has a weed connection. My college student won't even drink alcohol here at home. I've offered. She does say that she "drinks" when she goes to frat parties (well, back when frats were allowed to host parties before the plague...she cannot even walk into her own sorority house anymore because she doesn't live there yet.) Apparently, when a lady goes to the bar at a frat party, a guy will add alcohol to every drink. If a girl doesn't go to the bar for a drink, a frat guy will give them a red solo cup anyway. She isn't interested in accepting a random drink from a random guy, so she watches her drink being mixed and sips. Again, I am possibly naive, but both girls are pretty open about such things.
They may not drink and they may not smoke it but especially if your daughter is in college she has friends who use it and know where to get it. Weren't you a student in the 80's? Surely you knew people who smoked it. Some things don't change all that much.
This is interesting information about who is at greatest risk when infected. -- BLOOMBERG: "99% of Those Who Died From Virus Had Other Illness, Italy Says," by Tommaso Ebhardt, Chiara Remondini and Marco Bertacche: "More than 99% of Italy's coronavirus fatalities were people who suffered from previous medical conditions, according to a study by the country's national health authority.
