i get that this is overly simplistic, but why can't the local pbs station be used for this, or something like this? maybe a digital school channel, with 1.1 being 1st grade, 1.2 2nd, 1.3 third, etc.

That makes too much sense, especially for the little tykes.

If, and that’s a huge if, the technology works, one teacher could teach a bunch of kids online, freeing up more teachers to teach more face to face. You can’t have 1,000s on line since the tech is too fragile and there would be too little time for interaction.

the schools and administrators spent all the time since March preparing for a fantasy return to normalcy and school this fall. Was NEVER going to happen, so once again, countless time and resources were squandered, when they could have been spent moving to a more optimal on line solution.

Turns out, way back in 1964, my middle school signed up for/was signed up for distance learning. The subject was science. I still remember the guys name, Coleman Gentry. The lessons came via PBS to a single, black and white tv, on a cart in the front of the room. Black and white, probably 20" screen at the most. Terrible. Talk about a lost year. I can still visualize that tiny, grainy picture with garbled sound.

Great idea. Could layoff most of the teachers and save a bundle.

Note that teachers:. Better start working on your TV presence if you want to stay employed

Or we could have pulled our head out of our ass and acted like adults instead of scared children.

Surprisingly, today went very well. I found a couple of Google extensions that really helped me manage my classes, and it was a very good day. Guys, I think I can do this.

So here’s another question about the impact of the pandemic. How does the economy stand and what is the outlook near and long term? We’ve been pummeled these last few months.
The GNP dropped 30% last quarter and is likely to drop more. Businesses large and small are going bankrupt or running on vapors. Unemployment is beyond 10% with slim prospect of rebounding quickly. Renters are on the verge of eviction and landlords are equally hurting.
Only the massive infusion of money into the economy has kept the stock market up and avoided panic. What happens if reality hits or there is another shock to the system? We’re in a bubble and a crash is possible maybe likely. On top of that the $5 trillion or so is likely to beggar our children. Finally I recently saw a chart that showed the percentage of people whose income comes from wages or salaries declining and the percentage whose income comes from government increasing. In fact it’s approaching 50/50.....a very scary situation if accurate.
This question isn’t posed with intent to blame or excuse. I don’t want to see “Trump screwed up” or “Pelosi is using it to undermine Trump” or any excuse. Fact is we have been failed by each and every one of our so called leaders....may they rot in hell.
So do you all see what I see or not? Can we pull out of this by printing money wholesale or do we face a depression that makes the Great Depression seem mild? What can be done to stop or recover?
I’ll add my thoughts later but would like to read yours.

That’s great news. I just hope you are permitted to do your thing without "guidance" from up the chain. Good luck.
