All these MLB games being scratched because of a little virus. I bet if there was a Women’s Pro softball they’d play. Lucky these men never had to play on a period.
Meanwhile in North Texas yesterday, my sophomore's drill team started camp with a half-day workout. The high school grounds were so crowded with football players working out, baseball players pitching and batting, and band members marching, that it made my heart soar. Then, I had to wonder if they will actually get to participate in any actual games this year (forget just fall). I mean, we aren't even allowing the 50% of kids (and teachers) who want to go back to regular school do so before Labor Day...and who are we kidding? When will they ever be allowed back to school? Our young, healthy people need to be out and about and active.
I'm 57 years old, but I still remember 2-a-days. Full pads in August on a south Louisiana morning on a soggy field because it storms here every afternoon in the summer is about as miserable an experience as you can imagine, outside of going to war I guess. And I went through it in the days when coaches tested your manhood by limiting water breaks. If I had to go through that and then be told, sorry, you can't play the game on Friday night....
Sometimes after practice our coach would pair us off 2 by 2 and we would have to race from the practice field to the locker room. Winner got to go on and drink water. Loser had to go back and race somebody else. I always had to race this guy who had been state champion in the 100. No way I could beat him in a track uniform with spikes but I was faster wearing full pads after practice. He never beat me. Not once.
we called our coach Coach Crazy Waters he lived to practice in the rain and lighting, and hail, and wind, etc, etc
"Put a little tape on it and get back in there", "Water breaks are for girls", It's just a little blood", "Put some tape on it you'll be alright" "how many fingers am I holding up, close enough now get back in there"
