I am issued disposable ones at work everyday. My family does not like cloth too much right now because of the heat factor at 110 degree heat index. My daughter uses disposable ones at High School strength and conditioning. UIL makes them wear masks when they are not working out.
We were sent a letter 3 weeks ago and asked to make a choice, virtual or in person. What you choose was how it was going to be for your kid. Now they did this. @StaceyO said Plano was 75% in person. From my FISD sources, Frisco was ~ 50% in person. A bunch of Indians here are scared. One problem that was told to me is that they are running into a loss of teachers willing to teach in person. They need more time to figure it out. I think what people are really afraid of is Tuesday, November 3. Schools will open after that.
I have six, maybe eight, masks, but only wear a couple of them. I go out three times in two weeks. Very minimal interaction when picking up groceries curbside. I take my mask off and leave it on the dash of my car. It’s in the sun 6+ hours a day. Plenty of heat to kill anything, I wash them every couple of uses, but I move them out to the dashboard as soon as possible. I purchased a 3M 2500 Filtrite A/C filter, disassembled it, cut pieces to go in my mask and use that as the removable filter, which I use only once. If I had more (actually any) close contact I would wash after every use.
Do us a favor, and I'm only saying this because its inevitable sort of like the scared kid in the outfield thinking to himself "don't hit it to me don't hit it to me" and bam! It hits him on top of the head. So, back onto my question/favor, when you get it, because you will. Promise me you will come back and tell us how ridiculous wearing that mask was for you.
You are right, it is shitty. But it’s better than suffocating over a two or three week period with Covid-19. It’s also a lot better than saying bye to my daughters and wife via Skype as they get ready to intubate me. Unfortunately, I have taken the time to learn, a lot, about death by Covid. I’ll continue to take extreme steps to avoid going out that way.
Plano ISD pulled the plug on in person classes at 9 a.m. this morning. No students in person until September 9th...but who in the hell are we kidding? No kids in school THIS YEAR. I am a mere 3 or 4 years from being eligible for retirement. I wish I could retire now and homeschool 10 kids in history and English. I have a math/science teacher who would partner with me to teach those subjects. I could make a lot of money that way with a fraction of the headaches and worry. The only good news out of today was that my UNT daughter's science lab class NAY be scheduled in person if she elects to do that. I would DAMN WELL hope so! It's a damned lab, for shit's sake! I guess one positive is having ample time to teach my younger daughter to drive...I guess. She's eager, but that can be...scary, too. She doesn't have a little compact car, yet, so she's learning in my Expedition, which is a lot of car for her 95 pounds.
