If done right, like S Korea or Singapore, testing can help stop the spread. The drive up test, or a completely isolated test site could do wonders on informing people of the urgency that they self quarantine. Further, if you test positive, you can immediately inform those who’ve you had close contact with so they can be vigilant. But having test of themselves is not much use. As 123 noted, you go up to the hospital to get your test, or your local clinic, you potentially just infected everyone you came into contact with, some of which may be at high risk. You would have been better off staying at home quarantined away and just assumed you had it.
So we’ve had over 2 months notice yet the president still doesn’t seem to understand the importance of the issue. This either from leadership or actions. Things he could have done. Yes everyone will be exposed but the key is to have exposure and illness spread out so that the medical facilities aren’t overwhelmed. First the technical 1) LISTEN to medical professionals not political instincts 2) use WHO test 3) bring Navy hospital ships in and make available 4) Army and Marine MASH units (or whatever they’re called now) be put on alert to be set up as needed Leadership 1) not calling it a fake hoax or political hit job 2) acknowledge the seriousness and assure he is interested in working this first and foremost. Instead he spends more time tweeting about 3 year old slights, HRC 3) take responsibility for getting the job done. Quit whining about it’s not his fault He wasted weeks that could have been used to prepare. It’s time he stepped up.
In the end it doesn't freaking matter if you have it. What matters is if you think you have it, stay home! Ride it out, because you can and then you will be all better. If you had "it" or not is completely irrelevant
Hospital ships and MASH units are a good idea to keep in reserve if it becomes necessary. Personally I like the idea of drive-up and isolated testing centers. It may be the only way to do it with s population as large as ours. Trump has closed our boarders to foreign incoming traffic. It's the right thing to do. Bash the man if it makes you feel good but it's just his nature to do things the way he does - the tweeting and name calling and his penchant for striking back. That doesn't mean that he isn't doing what he feels is the best way to safeguard the American people while we seek a vaccine. As @onceanlsufan has said there may never be a cure since Covid 19 is much like the flu. The complete shutdown of everything that we take for granted may or may not be the best policy. If the same number of people had contracted the flu and a few of them had died life would have continued to go on as usual. In fact the same number has caught the flu and died as before the coronavirus. Nobody noticed that. Is the total shutdown of any crowd gathering whether it be a sporting event, a concert and even restaurants and movie theaters the right thing or an overreaction? I really don't know. Neither does anybody else for sure.
The president is doing what a president can, reduce fear at all costs. Fear fallout will be far worse than the virus itself. Sad people can’t see that.
The problem is he isn’t successful in reducing fear. The only positive move has been closing the borders. Since that he’s been denying it’s a problem (until Friday), deflecting responsibility and retreating to tweets about HRC, impeachment and other injuries real and imagined. On top of that he gutted the CDC’s infectious disease team two years ago saying he could get them back quickly.....well where are they? He’s put his son in law on the team....what’s he good for? He’s running this like he ran his casinos....into the ground b
You say he's not "successful in reducing fear." but last night you made this statement: "I see more and more the extreme left using this as an excuse to push us into socialism." I think everyone here agrees with you on that, but do you agree that part of this movement is the MSM (less FOX News) approach of putting the blame for everything that's happening on Trump? In your post at 10:30 this morning, you complained about his "fake news, political hit job" tweets. So what's the answer? I've said repeatedly that I don't like his behavior on twitter. I do like when he calls out Acosta and the others who practice gotcha journalism to their faces. At this point, what should be happening is a suspension of hostilities. Everyone should be on the same page, and that is to get the nation through this with as little loss of life, and with as little disruption of normal "life" as possible. THE DEMOCRATS AND THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA ARE NOT ON BOARD WITH THIS!!!! They became fully invested in their mission of "get Trump" a long time ago, and this is just the latest tool in the toolbox for them. So, at this point, Trump is absolutely correct in calling them out in any way he can.
Pretty sure you are wrong here too, in fact a quick check of the CDC operating budget shows it has increased under Trump with '18 and '20 being higher than ever. So basically, STFU Winston.
i often advocate for the economic model of the 4 asian tigers (singapore south korea taiwan hong kong) over that of the white scandinavian countries. looks like the corona management is superior in these places as well. zero deaths in singapore. life returning to normal. (this also might have to do with singapore being pretty hot all the time, like the next 7 mojnths here)
