    there’s a school of thought that says the blue state governors extending lockdowns are tanking the state economy purposefully so as to force the fed to bail them out....and their pension plans as well...

    Interesting article but comparing eliminating something in nature versus the marketplace is a bit of a stretch. If something goes extinct in nature, it ain't coming back. In the marketplace, a delay is the most likely outcome. Some one will either step in to fill the void or designs will change and create a work around. I spent a lot of time dealing with this type stuff and building redundancies into the supply chain and critical path analysis. It's part of contingency planning and decision making on single sourcing, sole sourcing, multiple sourcing, etc. And if something is deemed mission critical, you look into in house development and related costs.
