You are right bro. We don’t even know if we will be able to create an effective vaccine. There is a reason no one has ever come out with a vaccine for coronavirus. It would be societal suicide to sit around and wait for a vaccine.
So ... are you saying elderly people have not died from coronavirus induced pneumonia in the past? Keep in mind, this year alone, 23,000 pneumonia deaths not associated with the Flu or Covid. I don’t think we have the data of just how deadly past coronavirus cases have been, simply because we never had a test for it until now.
Not really. There are many cold viruses that are Coronavirus. They can’t make a vaccine because there’s so many and they mutate too much. Why do you think they sometimes miss on flu vaccine? They have to guess which type will be most prevalent that year. I’m not sure what that bodes for CV-19. If it mutates like common cold and keeps its virulence we’re in for rough times.
I agree with what @shane911 and others have been saying about opening up sooner. The isolation were done was to reduce the overload of hospitals and develop treatments. We’ve done that. I read reports of multiple treatments from Trump’s miracle drug to antivirals and even some genetic (I think) treatments to reduce and limit the overactive immune system. We’ll still need to take many precautions and those at risk more. There may have to be localized shut ins or rolling isolation. However we are risking more IMO ever day we continue this shutdown. One of the first things I pointed as a potential problem was the interruption of our just in time supply system. We’re seeing the beginnings of the impact. Delay will only make it worse.
Detection is also a big plus. We have many more testing kits now than before. I even read they can detect coronavirus in feces. Much like the nasal test, all you need to do is submit to a deep anal swab.
No one's taking a deep anal swab on me without taking me out for a good meal and getting me drunk first.
