You being associated with healthcare (I think), can probably appreciate that the issue is NOT the virus, but rather is the patient. Two people get the virus, same age, 60s, one feels a little flu-ish, the other ends up on a vent. It’s the same virus, but the host are different.
The answer is NOT a vaccine, or even a medicine to knock out corona. The answer is to fix the characteristics about the patients that put them at greater risk. Even if you come up with the knockout treatment for corona, the next pandemic may be a different bug that your new silver bullet doesn’t touch. So, we end up going through the same scenario, with the same unhealthy sector of the population taking the primary hit. In contrast, IF people made the necessary changes in their behavior to eliminate the risk factors, then all we are left with is a virus that causes a mild flu like syndrome.
I know, some people do all the right things, and still develop diseases like diabetes, obesity, etc. But, that is not the norm. It’s mostly people believe they have a “right” to do what ever the hell they want. The virus is showing them, yes you do, and you’ll pay the consequences. So ... drink up, smoke up, eat up, get fat, develop diabetes, heart disease etc, the virus can’t wait to meet you.
