You mean you believe you know what God wants of you. I have no idea what God wants of me, but I know a few things: Red's religious beliefs. I believe there is a Creator. Saints, priests, prophets, rattles and beads are another matter. It is impossible to know the will of God. Billy Graham and the Pope comprehend The Almighty no better than I. My God has no need for my money. My God doesn't need to be wound up on Sundays. I don't require a shaman to interpret the will of God for me, nor to beseech the diety on my behalf. Holy men, holy objects, and holy books are creations of men. Nature is created by God and I venerate only the creations of the maker. My God is not beguiled by robes, cathedrals, incense or incantations. Certainly not by jihads and crusades. I disdain people whose business is the selling of God. Prophets seek profits. Atheists do not threaten me. Zealots do not impress me. "God and me . . . we're mates." -- Michael J. Dundee
I'm curious why you feel it's appropriate and necessary to belittle peoples faith? Is it because you're uncomfortable with your own beliefs/non-beliefs? Are you jealous that other people have found a sense of peace from their faith that you don't have? People with faith believe after they die they go to a much better place. People with no faith believe they just die. Does that bother you? Are you just a miserable and insecure person that needs to make fun of peoples faith in order for it to make you feel better about yourself?
What bothers me is that Christians believe that 80-90% of the population on earth are going to suffer eternally, and then wonder why other people see a problem with this. Isn't "just dying" a more optimistic and happier belief? I don't see why Christians are so negative about death. Faith is not a good thing. It is basically the rejection of logical and critical thinking, and replacing it with wishful thinking.
People's "faiths" have killed more humans than any disease or war. Religion, and really any form of brainwashing, is dangerous. I am completely comfortable with my beliefs. It is you who would like to pretend that I am miserable & insecure in order to feel better about your crutch - religion.
And in fact he was. Miraculously he has changed with the times. He is vengeful one century, forgiving the next. Ah, the beauty of having the church think for you...
I do not mean that it is the only motivation, just that it clearly is a motivation. Do you deny that consequences discourage bad behavior & encourage good behavior???
It is you that is belittleing other people's beliefs and being very bitter and personal about it. We're just talking here. But you . . . are seriously disturbed by it.
