Gimp, apparently you are an unreconstructed secesh, who probably like to see slavery, or at least segregation back. That is the only reason to claim that the South had the right to secede, which was to continue slavery.

At least you apparently accept that you are wrong about the Morril Tariff being passed before the South left the Union. By the way the tariff was passed on March 2, 1861, which is after the South withdrew.

 

Here is another quote for those "misunderstood" Southerners who just wanted to be "left alone." This one was in support of a mercenary American army that tried to take over Nicaragua in 1856 to establish a slave state there. This appeared in a New Orleans newspaper's editorial:

"A barbarous people can never become civilized without the salutary apprenticeship which slavery secured. It is the duty and decreed prerogative of the wise to guide and govern the ignorant....through slavery, and the sooner civilized men learn their duty and their right the sooner will the real progress of civilization be rescued."

Nicaragua had banned slavery in 1824.

 

In support of the same army, another southern newspaper said, "In the name of the white race, (Walker, the leader of the army) now offers Nicaragua to you and your slaves, at a time when you have not a friend on the face of the earth."
