BS, you flat don't know what you are talking about. Read Allan Nevins and James McPherson and you will know that slavery caused the Civil War anyway. I will take the word of world reknowned historians over a little right winger any day. Here are a couple of quotes from some of your "heroes." Jefferson Davis, "Cuba must be ours,......to increase the number of slaveholding constituencies." Albert Gallatin Brown, US Senator from Mississsippi: (This when he wanted the US to take over Mexico.) "I want Tamaulipas, Potosi, and one or two other Mexican states, and I want them all for the same reason--the planting and spreading of slavery." There are a lot of others I could quote. The Confederacy undoutedly would have attacked Cuba and probably Mexico to establish slavery there had it survived the Civil War. Either read something mainstream on this subject or let it alone. You don't know your facts on the tariff and your defense of the South is a thinly veiled defense of their racist motives.
Your Civics 101 lesson for the night: to become law a tariff has to pass BOTH houses of Congress. Just because it passed the House of Representatives does not mean it was law. The tariff was defeated in the Senate. It did NOT pass the Senate and become law until the South seceded and its Senators and Representatives were no longer in Congress. It is a well known historical fact that the Morill Tariff became law after the South seceded. I am through wasting time with you.
If all of your "well known historical facts" are indeed facts why don't you show the proof that they are indeed "facts." Why don't you just admit that you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground? You have been challenged hundreds of times to back up your words and you have yet to do it even once. You rant about President Bush's military service but you never answer anybody about your own whereabouts during the Viet Nam war. Were you in Canada? Show us your service records. Is there a single person of the face of the Earth who would shed a tear if you dropped dead? If you ever get tired of being you and decide to check out I will gladly buy you the gun, poison, knife, razor blade or rope to do it with. If you would rather jump off a bridge I will drive you there.
Bengal B, you have been on my ignore list for some time. As for this subject, you don't know crap about it, so why waste board space with your posts? Have a good life.
If I am on your ignore list how did you happen to read it? You must have missed my post on this thread where I supported Abe Lincoln as a great president. I'm sure you will be overjoyed to hear that I am having a great life. I closed a deal today that will double my income and thanks to the Bush tax cuts I'll be able to keep most of it for myself. Slavery is against the law but if you are desparate for a job I would be willing to take you on as an indentured servant. I believe in hiring the mentally challenged. How are your skills with a broom and mop?
Hey braindead, I am not interested in reading right wing racist propaganda that has tried to sanitize the South's motives for seceding. This article is undoutedly a prime example of what I have been talking about. By posting it, you are revealing yourself to be a racist, who is defending the South for starting the War of the Rebellion. Read Allen Nevens. Read James McPherson. The cause of the Civil War was slavery, end of story. Again, even though the South did not secede over the tariff issue, the Morril Tariff was passed after the South withdrew its representatives from Congress.
Wow. What a shock. Supa proves him wrong and he retaliates by calling him a racist. What a predictable, moronic doophus Cotton Bowl is.
http://members.aol.com/jfepperson/quotes.html Read some more quotes from Southerners here and what they thought about slavery. They loved it. They found justification for it in the Bible. It was a great blessing and they intended to exand this "blessing" into Mexico, Cuba, Central America, and the Carribean after they won the Civil War.
