Just a few thoughts. 1. We have a logjam at running back, just like we had a logjam at quarterback last year. Three QBs left last summer, anybody remember them? It was inevtable that a RB or two would find some greener pastures elsewhere. The notion that an Edwards transfer makes us "thin" at running back is ridiculous. We are still deep at RB and that is very important, because we have taken some serious, season-ending injuries there in the last three years. I'm sorry the transfer had to be Edwards, because as TE points out, the cat could play and he looked pretty damned good to me. But getting on Nick's bad side isn't too smart, if true. 2. LSU is still several players over the 85-scholarship limit for August. Someone will flunk out and someone will grayshirt, perhaps, but there may be other transfers before this summer is over. Anybody with an attitude may be putting himself on Nicks "expendable" list. Who will be next? 3. Justin Vincent hasn't even started for a full season yet. Let's just watch a while before we consign him to the NFL.
Saban has said it all along on his quotes about this kid ... sad day for LSU. This kid is a National Champion and a contributor to that accomplishment ... no one can take or will ever take that away from him. With ****house luck or any luck ... this kid wakes up and walks on somewhere else and starts in another major college program and goes on to play Sundays ... bet it heavy and bet your last dollar on it. I just hope LSU doesn't have to face him in a BCS or other NC game. I will always be a Barrington Edwards fan ... in my twenty plus years of HS recruiting and film watching ... I've never seen a more amazing highlight reel or a better RB on film other than Cecil Collins ... Barrington Edwards, National Champion ... I salute you. Godspeed and great luck in your FB career.
hmmmmm Why are you saluting a guy that obviously had problems off the field. Saban is a class act for not putting up with Barrington's bull s___. We have great running backs ahead of Edwards. Our vaunted defense has faced countless top running backs and made them look silly. Believe me if we face Edwards as an opponent, we'll be fine! :lsug:
I agree you are either a Tiger or Tiger Bait!!!!! If the kid transfers to get more playing time that is one thing but if he got kicked off the team because he couldn't get his act together then shame on him, and hats off to Saban to getting for rid of the bad apples before they ruin the whole barrel. Plus this should help us recruit another just as talented RB that will have some space eligibility wise between the current RB's on the team. Edwards leaving only hurts Edwards LSU will be just fine. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
I am amazed that a coach would not play the most talented player at his position ... makes you wonder how Saban has managed to win a game huh? LOL I wish Edwards all the best, but LSU will be just fine without him...
B Edwards was a demon on special teams and I think you can never have enough good running backs, but if he had off the field problems, then it is better for the team chemistry for him to move on. Good luck and thanks for the contributions last year.
The kid's all-world in high school & fans are speaking of him as a "can't miss" running back - the greatest thing since sliced bread. But he can't crack into a talent-laden RB corp for the amount of playing time he is accustomed to experiencing or feels he deserves. He becomes discgruntled and, as eighteen year-old kids are prone to doing, has a difficult time communicating his displeasure. Fans and the press turn on him and begin to tear him down, though it is likely far from the truth. America loves it's hero's and -seemingly more- loves to tear them down. Of course, I'm speaking of Brandon Jacobs, AU's fourth string running back in "03 that recently transferred to D-I for playing time follwing the decision of CW and RB to skip the NFL draft.
It would be sort of like the Fitzgerald situation. He was 3 years removed from high school but had only been in college for 2 years. The NFL let him in as their rule states '3 years removed from their high school class graduation'. Mike Vick left Va Tech as a redshirt sophmore. JV will be 3 years removed from his high school graduation so he would be eligible to declare. If he is ready or not is a whole another thread.
