I don't really care if people flam this post. That is not the person that I want to communicate with anyways. I want to hear feedback from reasonable TRUE LSU fans. Not homers or bandwagon jumpers. Most of the people on here that flame a post like this are the first people that will flam LSU after its first loss. They were not the ones there during the low win years. Enough about those incompetent LSU fans.

I think people don't get enough credit to what Mauk provided to the team last year. I am not saying that he lit the world on fire, but he was a capable quarterback. He WAS drafted. I don't think that Randall is even in the same league. He would have a hard time starting for Southern.

As for expectations that I have about this season. I think Saban has been here long enough to have quality players at every position. He has done a really good job of that. I just wish he would have pulled the redshirt off of one of his freshman QB's last year. All I can say is it will be a very interesting first game of the season. GO TIGAHS!

I believe the defense will carry the team once again.

As for all the QB talk.... It is very easy to forget things that Mauck did, such as his first "touchdown pass" in the Ole Miss game..............

It dumbfounds me how a lot of people can remember only the positives for Mauck yet remember only the negatives for Randall.

    ? at QB

You are correct. We've got a question mark at QB. We'll be much better at QB iin 2005.

That said, CNS and Will Muschamp used the Defense to win a few games last year when the Offense struggled. I'm sure we'll see the same formula next year.

Yes, I'm concerned that it won't get here fast enough!

Seriously, the only concern I have is Florida. I think we beat Auburn and Georgia.

Don't be ridiculous. A thread about concerns for next years team is what this forum is all about. There have been several pro and anti Randall opinions given in the past couple of months and no one has ever been bashed. If LSU loses 2 early road games next year and a couple of yahoos come on here and want to fire Saban, then I'll be all over ther a$$es and I don't give a damn what you think about it.

People wake up. This defense will be as good and probably even better than last year's defense. Remember last year's defense started off a little slow. This year, this defense should be rock solid from the first play of game 1.

That being said, it will be extremely difficult for anybody to beat this team. And yes Matt Mauck was no Bert Jones. The running game is BETTER this year. More experience, and once again, just like the D, it will be good to go from the very first play of the first game.

The passing game will be handled with kid gloves. And if you have reservations about Randall leading this team, then don't. Because he will not be the one leading this team in the end. Russell has as much talent as Randall has inconsistency. Put those two things together and Russell starts by the Mississippi State game.

I think people tend to dismiss Mauck's contributions to the team last year too hastily. After all, he was the 16th rated passer in the nation last year in pass efficiency, ahead of every other SEC quarterback including Manning, Leak, Greene, Clausen, or anyone else you want to name.

Having said that, Mauck improved tremendously between his previous year and last year, and there is no reason that Marcus Randall will not improve after another year and a half of Jimbo's coaching since he was a starter. Whether he will improve as much as Mauck did is anyone's guess, but with our defense, a strong running attack, and receivers who can turn short passes into long gains at any time, Randall does not have to carry the team on his back. He just needs to be efficient, run the offense, and avoid turnovers that force the defense to protect a short field.

While we will obviously miss players like Hill, Lavalais, Alexander, Hunt and Gay on defense in certain ways, I think the overall quality of the defense might even be better this year than last year. The defensive backfield is much deeper and Corey and Travis may be the two best CB's in the nation, let alone the best pair on one team. Mario Stevenson, Nick Child, and Keron Gordon showed some serious ability to make plays, and none of them was a factor last year. Wroten looks to be perhaps even better as a run-stopper than Chad, although I doubt he puts as much upfield pressure as Chad did. On the other hand, Oliver and Pittman are probably not as good at stopping the run as Hill (for that matter, at the end of the year, I am not sure anyone in the nation was as good as Hill at jamming the wide run) but both of them can put more pressure on the QB around the edge than Hill could.

We went into last season with our running game as a question mark, as we had to replace Toe and DD. This year, we go into the season knowing that JV and Ally are as good a pair of RB's as anyone has in the nation, and talented guys like Addai are having to be moved to other positions so that their talents can be used on the field. I don't think we will see anyone at WR with the same combination of grace and toughness as Michael Clayton, but Dwayne Bowe certainly looks like he has the toughness part down along with the ability to snag the ball. While I wish Amp Hill was healthy, there is every reason to think that at least one and maybe all three of our stud WR recruits will be able to contribute next year. They are all amazingly talented.

We may not win the MNC next year, but I am not worried about next year's team. We pay Saban the big bucks to sweat the details, and nobody sweats the details any better than he does. We have every reason to be quietly confident that next year's team will be outstanding and fun to watch, even though we go through a brutal early conference schedule.

this team will be fine they may not win the NC. However they are very good and will again shock the world. Young players will step up and be very sharp. I think LSU will win 10 games and win the SEC.
