Yes I'm serious. Right now, if a blue chip player want to go to a school that puts players in the NFL, the SEC is the conference to do it. Look at the recruiting classes over the years and you'll see just how lopsided it is. Only USC has had continually great recruiting classes.
Oregon rarely breaks the top 25 until this last two seasons when they were ranked 13th and 14th 4 SEC teams were ahead of Oregon in 2009 )Florida, Alabama, LSU, Auburn). 6 SEC schools are ranked ahead of Oregon in 2010 (Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee).
So you can see, the SEC schools do much better at recruiting than Oregon. Sure Oregon has a single big daddy donor, but It's a fact that SEC schools get more in total donor $$ than Oregon.
2009-2010
Florida $39,350,660
LSU $38,255,521
Alabama $33,739,056
Auburn $29,731,122
Tennessee $27,936,952
Georgia $27,354,228
South Carolina $23,987,283
Oregon $18,548,599
Uncle Phil does help build the facilities, but man, the ones we had were ancient! Mac Court was almost 100 years old (Basketball) and Autzen needed that upgrade badly. The other stuff is great, but Oregon needed it just to compete with the LA schools, and Washington. They weren't even thinking at the time about competing nationally. It's a nice byproduct of it though.
