looks like plagiarism to me....I think they kick kids out of schools for that :thumb: ...maybe not at ND
I know it was the NIT. Bitter never said the ncaa final four, he said that Pete never made it to the final four. The NIT was a bigger deal back then. LSU came out 4th, not 3rd like I said in an earlier post. But, it's pretty hard to come out 4th and not make the final four. I guess Bitter doesn't know what semifinals mean.
Great read, before his time and this paragraph proves it! "Stick The Pistol in the modern era and he would be the most polarizing figure in sports, someone who combined T.O.'s insanity, A-Rod's devotion to stats and Nash's flair for delighting the crowds. Skip Bayless would blow a blood vessel on "Cold Pizza" screaming about Pistol's ball-hogging. The "SportsCenter" guys would create cute catchphrases for his no-looks. Bloggers would chronicle his bizarre comments and ghastly hairdos. Fantasy owners would revere him as if he were LaDainian Tomlinson or Johan Santana. Nike would launch a line of Pistol shoes. He'd be the subject of more homemade YouTube videos than every other player combined and have a trophy case filled with ESPYs."
I'm not saying that Pistol Pete wasn't a very good individual player, but I just question how great of a player he was when none of his teams could ever make it that far in the playoffs. Again, can anybody name a great basketball player who couldn't lead his team further in the playoffs then what Pistol Pete ever did. MJ wouldn't be considered the same player he is, even with all the individual accolades and scoring titles, if he didn't win titles. I don't think we'd be seeing two bios on the guy just on his basketball skills. Instead, his freakiness is why there's so much interest about the guy. I think Pistol Pete's importance was as a transtional figure. Although, I can't help but wonder if his popularity was tied into his being white. If he was just another black player doing this, would he have been as popular.
