Or maybe I'm applying common sense and you're applying liberal "the people are too stupid to know what's good for them, only a government program can save us" bullcrap. Yep, that sounds right. The courts (the SC hasn't looked at this one yet) are split on this so far, and the ones that approve are doing so by calling the mandate a "tax." So they are being both stupid and dishonest. Ever heard of a dishonest lawyer? And what are all judges but lawyers with a promotion.
Available, not get your ass on the yellow footprints. You get to CHOOSE if you want to do that or not. Laws, damn good thing because the anarchy would begin with a whole lot of liberal bloodletting. Be glad they protect you hoss.
How does it intrude exactly? By eliminating freeloaders, we can affordably provide private health insurance for everyone. Let me repeat, how is it in anybody's best interest for freeloaders to get free emergency room care when they can afford insurance? I thought republicans were for privatizing health care? Here you are suggesting that citizens should be be able to blow off health insurance and count on hospitals providing free care (at increased cost to the rest of us), free health clinic and charity hospitals. Talk about socialized medicine! And you are for it!
I didn't get to choose and neither did SabanFan. In wartime, they can still call men up. It's a mistake to assume that all the tough guys think just like you, D'Artagnan.
Gee I didn't know that wally. When was the last time that happened? You're a touchy old fart. It is pointless to go any farther because you refuse to acknowledge the obvious.
Go back to post 9. You'll see I posted an idea that keeps those who choose not to be insured accountable for any health costs they ring up. The government helps, but the guy who took the risk has to pay it back 100% and then some.
The mandate isn't forcing anyone to buy coverage, really. If you don't prove you have coverage you pay an additional fine/tax on your income tax return. Read that word again: tax. Failure to get coverage does result in an additional tax. So to call someone stupid and dishonest for calling something that looks like a tax a tax is, well, I'll let you fill this one in. You can hate it, you can think it is sneaky, but the argument is there. The democrats had their lawyers help craft this law and it is no happy coincidence that the mandate is being enforced in this way.
I don't get it how this is better for the nation, private insurance companies, those who insure themselves and those who don't. How is is preferable to allow a freeloader to freeload, then involve the police and the courts to make him pay it back rather than just requiring everybody to be insured? What a waste of time and money and increased government involvement to investigate, pursue, garnish wages, and require these deadbeats to pay. Why not just require everybody to pay premiums up front like honest people and be done with it?
