I thought that was a questionable call. Jackson did not spear the QB - most if not all of that hit was in the form of a push from Jackson's arms. Maybe his facemask grazed the back of the jersey of Bama's QB. I also didn't think that hit was all that late. Flynn has had his ups and downs, but I think a key point to consider is who we have backing up Flynn. Perrilloux didn't look too poised last time he played. I wouldn't mind seeing Perrilloux get a few more touches per game, maybe a series here and there, but right now Flynn seems to be as good as it gets. It has been stated that the receivers aren't where they need to be, which may make Flynn's play look worse than it is. The passing game has shown some improvement in the past few games - hopefully they can fully get in sync during the LaTech game.
actually, that was Tyson Jackson with his late hit on the QB. We stopped them on third down and was gonna get the ball back with a 17-3 lead. LSU was probably gonna score again a go up 24-3 and virtually put the game out of reach. But instead, the very next play a bomb to 22, forget his name, and Bama gets the momentum. But Flynn did have a HORRIBLE first half. I guess we're gonna have to live with his inconsistentcy as we march to a title.
JPRLSU , you probably need to get a life. Not much of a post here. No one can be "consistant" every play, every game. The fact that Matt and his team had enough championship attitude about them to pick themselves up in the come-from-behind situation, and kept coming from behind, until the final second evaporated. Matt did fine.
Agreed 100%. This absolutely MUST stop. Miles seemed genuinely alarmed at the breakdown in discipline among his seniors, of all people. He pretty much admitted he was gonna put his players through the wringer this week, and I believe him.
What does the trophy for opportunities look like? Is it shiny? Yeah, Russell never led this team to a BCS Championship. If Flynn doesn't improve, he won't either. I can look past some of his high-sailing passes when he suffered from the high-ankle sprain. It's a classic symptom of the injury. It does not account for his badly timed throws or poorly thrown balls in all games save for this year's Auburn game and the Peach Bowl win over Miami. I don't know what world you live in, but unless all three of those passes that were intercepted were tipped, it's a horrible game and LSU was lucky to win because of it. The team as a whole showed great character and resolve to pull out the win despite giving 'Bama three opportunities to score while taking away three opportunities of their own. 12-19 for 128 yards is not what you can call consistent. (Miss State) 17-27 for 200 yards is not what you call consistent (va Tech). A QB should complete at least 60% of his passes while throwing for at least twice as many TD's as Interceptions. Anything less is inconsistent and should be considered a liability for his team. Just because LSU keeps winning despite playing poorly does not mean that they're doing the right things. This team has to tighten up or they will lose at least one more game this season. Did you steal that quote from a SunBelt coach? It's all that matters for the team, but it does not mean that Flynn did a good job or is a consistent QB, which is what the OP wanted to discuss. Facts are facts and all of my love for LSU does not change them. Excuses are great for fan discussion, but they're still excuses for poor play. This team is a few plays from having three losses when with the talent on the field, they should have blown out everyone on the schedule.
Sorry, MLU, but you've obviously got an axe to grind with Flynn. Flynn's completion % in both the games you quote was about 63%, and he threw for 2 TDs with zero picks against MSU and 0/0 against VA Tech. So, based on your own logic, apparently he's doing OK. You may remember, as well, that it was raining like no tomorrow for at least a good portion of those games. Flynn's not in the running for the Heisman, but he's certainly not a liability to this team. I'm not sure what axe you're grinding but you're failing to backup your argument. By the way, Flynn is 8-1 against what has turned out to be the toughest schedule of any team in the Top 20 so far. Yes, 3 of those wins were close. But they're wins. And our only loss was in 3 OTs to a Heisman trophy candidate. He's not doing bad for a guy who's only started 10 games in his college career. And as far as I know, he's not a discipline problem. So that's nice.
I have no axe to grind. I enjoy seeing him play just like I did Marcus Randall. In a world of players escaping schools so they can play more in search of personel glory, Flynn is a breath of fresh air. He is an excellent game manager with very few slip ups in that regard, but people are completely blind if they think that LSU is winning because if Matt Flynn rather than in spite of him. Let's stretch it and give you the two games that I quoted since you have such a short memory. That's four games out of ten. You call that consistent? I don't make excuses for myself and I don't make excuses for players...
I'd say Doucet's absence and some really bad receiving for a couple of games aren't excuses - they're reasons. Give him 2/3 of those dropped (full up in the bread basket and dropped) passes back and he's well over 60% for the year. Like I said, Flynn isn't perfect. And he can't chuck it 75 yards. But he's an impressive QB in a tough spot. And that's the mark of a leader - even if the tough spot is one of your own making. If he was losing, I might be playing saxaphone on your band wagon. But he's not. So I'm not. In fact, I think Flynn and Dorsey and Hester define this team. Guts, poise, in your face power. I'll take it. :geaux:
I agree with JSRacing.....Flynn usually makes his mistakes when he is hurried and doesn't step into the ball. I remember 2 INT's he was rolling out due to pressure. One of them he just missed seeing the defender underneath. The other the LB made an unbelievable play. It was a combination of Flynn mistake and an unbelievable play by the LB. Now let me say this....he is clutch when he needs it and he was able to shake off those INT's and man a come back in the 2nd half. Also, it wasn't all Flynn that opened the door for Bama. I should've stated this in my 1st post, but the penalties and PF's killed us too. As far as the O-line, yes they have been every bit as inconsistent as Flynn. I was disappointed we couldn't run the ball more. I feel better when we can have success to running. It takes a lot of pressure off FLynn, who I realize is a 1st year starter and will make mistakes. I have a feeling that RP will make many more mistakes than Flynn has in his 1st year starting. RP will try to make plays that he shouldn't.
