I agree. At one point I had even wrote Carey off. But he looked really good in the spring game. No ill effects from the knee injury and he looked really confident running the ball. That's why I predict he ends up 3rd in carries by a running back this year, ahead of Joseph Addai and Barrington Edwards. Addai will see play at the wideout this year, which will get him more involved in the offense as well. Edwards will be the odd man out, unfortunately for him. He will see substantial play only in the event of injuries. We all know what Vincent can do. Seeing Ally Broussard come in 15 lbs lighter and in much better shape (all fat loss) was exciting this spring. And with a rejuvenated Shyrone Carey this running game is going to be special this year.
I think Nick will give Barrington Edwards some quality playing time. He's a pretty damn good back and Nick will want to keep him happy. If JV goes over 1,000 yards again, he's probably gone to the NFL next spring and we'll need Edwards. Don't forget we've lost our starting running back to season-ending injuries in each of the last three years. The odd man out is Spadoni, who I hope likes to be a headhunter on special teams.
Marcus Randall will be the starter all through the year. In my opinion, he will do as good of a job if not a better job than Mauck. Matt didn't have the physical abilities that Randall does. If Randall can improve in his decision making on the field, he will turn some heads this year.
Well that's the basis for my prediction that Randall will be benched. His decision making skills will not improve and he will throw way too many innacurate passes. I don't buy into the physical abilities argument for Randall. He's not as talented as Matt Mauck, and Matt Mauck was not a great quarterback.
