I agree. I don't think he has to take away touches from Randall or ODB to get touches of his own. Also, I've seen some posts mentioned Shep's drops. I feel like all of our receivers are holding onto the ball a little better, and I don't know that it is because they suddenly learned how to catch. I think Lee throws a very catchable ball, more so than JJ.
I think the slot is a perfect place for Shep. I also think he is very close to breaking loose and making some huge plays for LSU. He has ankle breaking ability and break away speed, just get the man the ball in space and let him go to work. Fortunately with the addition of Odell Bechham Jr there will now be 2 guys on the field with similar big play capability. Of course #2 will continue to rip the ball down. Oh, and don't forget Peterson at TE. I think Shep rounds out our offensive weapons very nicely. We are witnessing one of the most talented groups we have ever seen at LSU. I think that as Lee continues to progress these skill players will be able to reach their full potential. If this group begins clicking on all cylinders........WATCH OUT!!! The sky will be the limit.
Get him the ball in space as much as possible ! OMG.... Running game, Passing game and now Shep in the wildcat. Eat them up and spit them out baby !
Shep is ready and his teammates can't wait for him to get back on the field. He had his best practice ever as a Tiger last week and continues to get better. I am sure he will have some things to shake off once he gets on the field but he will be on the field often. Odell won't lose much PT either with all the 3 WR sets we use.
Sheps problem, as I see it, is that he has had drops when we needed him to catch the ball. I hope an added year of being a receiver has helped him. To his defense though, jj didn't give him too many opertunities to catch a well thrown ball. I would love to see shep catch the ball in full stride for once.
Shep made one good catch when the ball was high for a first down completion. However, he doesn't seem to be able to adjust to the low ball. Twice while running a similar route Lee threw the ball a little low. Instead of stopping and coming back for the ball he simply put his hands out bending forward resulting in incompletions. We saw the same thing last year on poorly thrown balls from J.J. Beckham, on the other hand, made a spectacular diving adjustment on a ball thrown low and behind him in the previous game. He plucked a T.D. pass high out of the air this game. I have all the confidence in the world in his hands and his ability to adjust to the ball and go after it. Until Shep exhibits better ball skills I have no confidence in him as a go-to WR.
He still helps open up our offense. On both deep passes in the seam, he had at least 2 defenders around him. Now let's get the TE in the other seam and hit him with an overmatched 1 on 1 coverage.
I can't figure out what the problem is with Russel Sheppard. Every time when J Lee tries to connect with him, it always seems like they are not on the same page and the ball is always a bit higher or lower than Sheppard expects. Maybe they just need to play more games together to create the chemistry? Really don't know.
shep looks as lost as JL did 3 years ago. so maybe theres hope because jl looks as composed as he looked lost. big ups to jarrett lee. his touch on the ball is amazing. even though his throwing from his shoulder constantly is a weird sight. it reminds me of philip rivers.
