Glad you pointed that out. I was reading through your post thinking, "jeezus - doesn't he realize that this is a good thing!?" We are not a perfect democracy, but we are the closest to it that we could realistically be.
Yeah if they know its coming. But the days of wars being fought with honor are over. We would never know what hit us until it was on the doorstep.
GREAT POINT!!!!!!! And as I recall the last Republic of this size and power did not fare so well in the long run.
Here are a few. Rome was the pioneer of globalization by establishing the dominance of Roman currency, the latin language and Roman culture. America has built upon this by establishing the dollar as the global currency, English as the global language and universal recognition and to a degree acceptance of American culture. Rome spent more on military expenditures than all other nation states combined during its time. In addition, Rome recognized the importance of technology in maintaining its empire by building an elaborate network of roads for military and commercial goals. Not only does America have the largest military budget in the world but they are also by far the global leader in military technology. Rome established its dominance through the implementation of raw military force and establishing Roman governors in far away nation states to maintain Pax Romana. America has established its political dominance by implementing friendly governments in foreign nations that receive large amounts of financial aid and manufacturing coups when neccessary.
Rome was an inorganic empire. It did not have the flexibility to change, and that is why it fell. During its 200 year decline and fall the military was in shambles. Mercenaries replaced the legions. Not to mention Rome was invaded on every possible front. Rome wasn't so much defeated as just stopped existing in the west. The empire lived on in the east near another 1000 years after the fall of Rome. Think about it the empire pretty much lasted from B.C. 750 to A.D 1453. Thats a pretty good run. If we were the new Rome we are only in the first 10 percent of our life span. We got this man.
You failed to mention... "by force". America hasn't established dominance through spreading our language, culture or currency. Our dominance has resulted in the establishment of our language, culture & currency across the rest of the world. How is this relevent to their fall? They took over the world, we occassionally take part in particular countries' activities & leaders. Although there is some similarity, Rome was an extreme - we are far from it.
