Blinders. You must be broader of vision to see the big picture here. You see the word empire and you think only in terms of Roman soldiers oppressing Christians. em·pire noun 1. A political unit having an extensive territory or comprising a number of territories or nations and ruled by a single supreme authority. 2. An extensive enterprise under a unified authority. It requires little imagination to see that many kinds of empire exist and that parallels can be drawn easily. Economic Empire may sound silly to you but it is old concept and widely recognized (See Google--4,800,000 hits) And America is a shining beacon of one. Substitute the phrase Economic Superpower and see if that sounds better to you. Half of the world's 500 billionaires and a third of the 27 million millionaires call the USA their home. Almost 48 percent of the largest companies and banks in the world are US. The concentration of economic power is even more evident if you look at the top ten companies in the world: 90 percent are US owned; of the top 25, 72 percent are US owned; and of the top 50, 70 percent are US owned. Within the inner circle of the biggest companies, the US has an overwhelming presence and dominance. The US dominates global weapons sales, exporting more than the next 14 countries combined. Responding to comments with fascist nut-case delusions is a sad way to lose an argument. The definition is not loose, you should read it again. And I already cited the obvious military and historical qualifications, which you haven't responded to and must accept anyway because they are facts. I'm pointing out another, more obvious, and more modern relevant fact that sole Superpower status is inherently imperial and it definitely includes a major economic dominance. International Free-market Trade is the hallmark of the American economic empire. Empire can be very good. Don't just look at the negative.
Fine, then don't use the word empire without the qualifier "economic" because there are connotations to the word empire.
maybe empires arent so bad. especially if they have hungry lions and christians. it only sounds silly to me in certain contexts. i would concede that mcdonalds has a global empire, but i am not gonna bring it up in any context where it is meaningless. i consistently favor freedom from the government. you are sill using your flawed single axis politcal spectrum that has caused you so many misunderstandings. opposition to collectivism is not necessarily fascism. you might have a point here, as i cant remember if i read everything in this thread.
What, discussing doing nothing about it? One guy says censure then gives up on his own bill and runs out of Congress. That's hardly doing anything about it. But OK, maybe they will.
I don't get it? I guess its Bush's fault we aren't enforcing the law with Illegals. All politicians should be impeached, its time to clean house and start over! We should be rounding up Illegals and hauling their butts otta here. At least we can never say again, that we can't find them! What percentage do you think at these rallies are actually Illegals compared to immigrants? The media's template kills me. If I actually believed what they told us, boy would I be deceived!
This is what our government should be doing to crack down on illegals ... bust the employers hiring them! From Fox News:
