I don't think anyone is blaming Bush for the high price of oil. However, since he is in office if the blame is going to fall on anyones shoulders it will be the Presidents. If a democrat was in office and oil was hitting record highs every day, us conservatives would be bitching about it to.

Like TigerWins said, price fixing is always a bad idea. In Iraq they pay 5 cents a gallon and I was reading that according to the International Monetary Fund this costs them like $3 billion a year in revenue. Imagine in a country as small as Iraq $3 billion lost from price fixing whereas the US population is 11 times as large. That would cost us approximately $33 billion a year in lost revenue for US businesses. That is a conservative estimate because I don't factor in how much more driving we do than Iraqis.

In the short run these high prices seem like a bad idea, however, in the long run these high prices will lead to more people complaining to Congress and hopefully lead to alternative fuels or at the least more hybrid vehicles.

I'm sure there are thousands and thousands of devout morons who believe just that.

You are misinformed. There is a finite amount of oil available and demand still grows. The Oil Peak has already passed and there will be steady decline in oil production from this time forward. With demand increasing, the price can only skyrocket.

It's got nothing to do with liberals. It's got nothing to do with where we drill. There will be a steady and increasing oil shortage on this planet and there is nothing anybody can do about it. We have to get past fossil fuels and it has to happen in the next 50 years or there will be a global economic collapse that will make the Great Depression look like a weekend in Starkville.

Electricity is what will power the next centuries. How we will make it without fossil fuels is the question. I think we will see many more nuclear reactors generating power. Better batteries have to happen. Perhaps a breakthrough in harnessing the power of gravity and magnetics will be a solution. Such investigations are among the most highly classified research out there. You've got to figure the military has got something going in this area.

That doesn't change the fact that there are vast amounts of available petroleum just waiting to be tapped. The tree huggers will be slapped aside once the price of gas becomes more of an issue than the future of the spotted owl.

Why is oil referred to as a "fossil
fuel" when there were no dinosaurs in the middle east?

I agree. I wish someone would explain to me how Exxon and Bush have worked together, based on campaign contributions, to rig the price of oil around the globe. Explain with evidence and facts please.

Cheney and Bush have been involved in the oil business for many years, so they call the oil companies each morning to set the price.

Remember, we invaded Iraq so Bush can take their oil and make more money too!

Yeah, just like we took the Kuwati oil after the first Gulf War. You'd think since we own all the Kuwati oil now that the price would be cheaper for us.......oh yeah, but Bush wants it higher for his oil buddies. I forgot.......

    OK.

How can you say that? At this very moment there are vast oil reserves outside of Alaska that we are not touching thanks to Greenpeace and PETA. It is a short term solution to dependence on foreign oil, admittedly, but others in this thread have a point.

You can help right now by purchasing a bank of solar cells and hooking them up to your house's power main. Also, the electric company must pay you for any kW that you put back into the grid.

Oh No!! The sky is falling! DOOM. DOOM. What will we do? I'm scared. We're all going to die. Someone please bring back clinton so he can save us all.

Seriously though, we can't replace fossil fuels. What will I use to power my big gas guzzling, V8 powered, SUV's?
