You are preaching to the choir, but your original post was about LSU, and the chances of being left out being mostly due to luck, correct? That is what I was referring to... an undefeated LSU is not going to be ranked #3 behind teams with 3 or 4 losses. It just won't happen.
how is strength of schedule unfair? in your opinion is beating Nicholls by 2 more impressive than losing to Florida by 2?
This has been my point all along. No one will ever be happy and we will still have controversy as to who makes it into the playoffs/BCS.
Strength of schedule is unfair because we start deciding if one 11-0 team is better than another 11-0 team by some criterium other than the only one that makes sense: Who won a head to head competition between the two. In the absence of the possibility of a head-to-head, we have to assume that we don't really know who is better. Yet that's not what we do, and that's certainly not what the BCS does.
so it's unfair to say that an 11-0 Hawaii team who played no top-25 ranked teams is worse than an 11-0 LSU team who played 6-7?
Rankings are based on you past performance, and who's returning on each team, period. That's what pre-season polls do, arrange teams from the year prior. Once the season unfolds, it is wins against quality teams that move your team up and down the polls. It use to be up to just humans, who played in the NC game. Now theres BCS, and it's not going anywhere. It's unfair some years...ie Auburn. But it's all we have. Could you imagine a play off system? How wore out would a team be, after 3 play off games, when they just finished a 13 game season! thats nuts...Bottom line is, if you are not good this year, you will not be ranked next year. If you win big games, and beat ranked teams...then you will move up...ie Oregon, KU 2007.
How could two 11-0 teams have had a head-to-head matchup? Serious question... have you been drinking today, Atreus21?
Yes, it's unfair. Because the rankings are subjective, and based on prior performance. And even if they were objective, it doesn't mean an 11-0 Hawaii team would lose to an 11-0 LSU team.
