LOL .. I remember that!! I used to watch that show all the time. I also remember Verne when he was the local sports guy on channel 8 in Dallas. I used to like him back then. What the hell happened??
Wow. I had forgotten about Buckskin Bill. I was on that show in 1974. Pretty sure my mom still has pictures of that...
Remember the elephant walk on Buckskin Bill? We all donated our pennies to help the zoo buy an Elephant?
Ron Franklin for PbP. Todd Blackledge as the analyst. Blackledge is usually paired with Brad Nessler, who's widely considered as the best in the business and I wouldn't mind him, but I just like the way Franklin calls a game. He (Franklin) would still probably be on the No. 1 team that does the best games, but that cow Holly Rowe got him demoted. He's not the best, but I like the way Sean McDonough call a game too. I'm not sure what happened to him, but he used to call the SEC games on CBS, then moved to ESPN and is doing 2nd/3rd tier games now. Wonder why he left CBS for that?
I like both Verne and Gary and enjoy it when they do the CBS games. Guess if I had to pick though it'd be Kenny Mayne and Archie Manning.
Reading this thread has been a joy. Hell, I'm smiling just thinking about Verne & Gary being replaced. I've read a lot of posts on here about the perceived bias towards LSU from those two commentators. Many think that they root against the Tigers in every game... Well I must say that, in large part, I agree. Those two clowns love to pay us backhanded compliments and say things like "Spencer Ware isn't even in the same league as Trent Richardson." And when Eric Reid came down with the critical late-game interception, Lundquist's "Oh, No!" was just too much to bear. I'm not sure who to recommend as their replacements, but it would be cool if Jon Gruden jumped over, though obviously not likely, considering the primo MNF job he currently holds. Speaking of long shots, maybe Peyton Manning will make a surprise announcement that he's retiring and jumping into the broadcast booth with Gruden.
