alright first thing i want to apologize, i shouldn't have said what i did. nobody is an idiot. i think when hiring a coach you should get the best man possible for the job and not worry about personal feelings. with that said i thought about this a lot last night and i think we should prolly hire jimbo. look what miami did. when davis left they hired coker and the staff stayed intact and they didn't miss a beat in fact they were better after davis left. but anyways i apologize for what i said.

Good points about Spurrier's previous interest in LSU. Here's another: Steve would give us a presence in Florida---surely he's still in the good graces of a number of HS coaches in the state---that LSU has not had before.

All of Louisiana, with sprinkles of Tx, Miss and Florida-bred talent tossed in for good measure---top it off with a proven collegiate coach with a good offensive mind and no inclination to ever set foot in the NFL ever again sounds like a perennial Top 10 finish the next 10 years or so to me.

JR is a big QB. The Michigan QB is a big guy too! Navarre (SP) moved as if he had lead in his feet. Have any of you watched JR and know if his foot work is good?

I hope that Nick Saban stays at LSU for the next 20 years. I personally believe that he will be here for at least the next 3 or 4 years. This is an internet discussion forum and the topic is "what if" Steve Spurrier is a great college football coach. Nick Saban is a better college football coach than Steve Spurrier. Steve Spurrier failed miserably as an NFL head coach. Given the right circumstances, Nick Saban could be as great as an NFL coach as he is as a college coach. Nick Saban has taken the first step toward becomomg a college coaching legend. What are Nick Sabans ultimate goals and ambitions? None of us know. Only Jimmy Johnson has won both a college National Championship and a Superbowl. How many current college coaches are capable of matching that? One. Nick Saban. Of the 3 hottest coaches in college football only Nick Saban has significant experience at both the college level and the NFL level. Bob Stoops is a great college coach. Bob Stoops has no NFL coaching experience. Pete Carroll is a very good college coach. Pete Carroll has NFL experience. He failed miserably in his only NFL head coaching chance.

Jimbo Fisher is a great college offensive coordinator. He comes from a football background. His brother is Jeff Fisher, head coach of the Tennessee Titans. Jimbo Fisher will probably be a head coach one day at a major college program. He will probably do very well. But maybe not. Nobody knows until he actually gets his shot. Mike Archer had almost as good credentials on the defensive side as Jimbo has on the O side. MIke Archer had such great credentials as the young Defensive coordinator for Bill Arnsparger that he parlayed those credentials into the head coaching job for LSU when Arnsparger left town. Steve Spurrier applied for the LSU head coaching job but Joe Dean decided to give Archer the job instead of Spurrier. Bill Arnsparger took the Athletic Directors job at UF and his first act was to hire Steve Spurrier as the Florida head coach. Lets not make the same mistake twice.

In the unlikely event of a Saban departure, Spurrier would be an ideal replacement, given the offensive firepower we have. I despised him when he was at Florida, but that would all change if he were to come to LSU. I don't think Saban is going anywhere in the near future, however.

We've already discussed putting a visor on the Bushwood Tiger (see on left). We'd keep the multicolor Caddyshack design, but would just make it a visor.

Then, we'd all (except for Uncle Gus who'd use a "follicacly challenged" disability exception because he can't stand Spurrier) then get that symbol put on visors!!!

So, YES - IF, and only IF, we lost Saban, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SPURRIER IN PURPLE AND GOLD!!!

Crystal Ball says that Granny Clampit will be gone after next year from South Carolina. Spurrier or Fisher will be great candidates for the SC Job.

Wouldn't it be great if Spurrier could resume his rivalry with Phat Phil at Tennessee, Richt at Georgia, compete against Florida, and meet a Saban coached LSU team every year in the SECC game.

    no harm done.

Whoever LSU would hire 1000 years from now after the Saban era is in the record books for all time wins ;)

I will still be a tiger fan, WHOEVEr it may be.
