Wow, it amazes me how fast so many hear warm up to Darth Visor the man we all loved to hate just a few years back. Yes he is a good coach but do Tiger fans think he is the ONLY coach available to continue our winning ways? It's not like a coach would be taking over a program in shambles, on probation or after firing coach that just won 9 games. There are some pretty good coaches out there that would probably line up to take over such a young team that just won the National Championship in a state that produces so many blue chippers. Why would we need to settle for such a jerk as Spurrier? Next I'll see someone post that if Spurrier is not available go after Tub-o-Chit Tubberville!!!! Thanks but no thanks, call me an idiot if you want to tiger777 but I think we are at a point where we don't have to settle for a jerk just because he had success in the past.

This may be a stupid question but here goes.

    Is drag racing dangerous?

I understand where you are coming from and there are right and wrong ways to disagree with each other.

    pretty much yeah.
I'm not gonna high jack this thread BUT I wrecked two years ago it was sorta wicked. 140 MPH wreck through 40 ft of guard rail and 50 ft of chain link fence. Some dip Sh** laid some oil down on the finish line from his motor and I got in it.

thanks to my roll cage, helment, racing harness & the good Lord, I was un harmed.

    No question is stupid

Spurrier reportedly wanted the LSU job REAL BAD when Mike Archer was hired. Supposedly he was smart enough to realize that LSU, as the only major football program in the middle of a state rich in football prospects and rabid supporters, could be a big time winner.

Spurrier seems burnt out and I am not sure I want him here either right now if Saban leaves, but on the other hand, he might want to get back on the bicycle and prove to everyone he can still do it.

I used to go to the Cajun Nationals when they were at State Capitol Dragway near Baton Rouge. I never saw a serious crash but I have seen some things in NASCAR races that amazed me that the driver came though it. Like Elliot Sadler in the M&M Chevy doing multiple flips and rolls all over the track when he spun out after Junior tried to cut into his lane. Sadler came through it uninjured and you could see that his reaction when the car came to a stop that he was pissed off about being out of the race as he pulled the steering wheel and slamed it against the dashboard.

I have never raced at any level but I love the exileration of speed. Last year I had to make a trip to North Louisiana, ironically to my girlfriend's mother's funeral. I was driving my SL 320 Mercedes roadster. The portion of the trip from Baton Rouge to Lafayette on I-10 was pretty mild due to the traffic. I could only average from 70 to up to 90, mostly in the 70's. When I turned northward on I-49 all of a sudden there was hardly any traffic and I put the hammer down. For most of the trip between Lafayette and Alexandria I was doing between 140 and close to 160 mph. It felt fantastic. Just me and the car and an occasional car or 18 wheeler to blow by like they were standing still. Fortunately there were no cops with radar guns or I would have had to make a detour to jail.

I kind of agree with Twisted's views. With our talent in place, there are other coaches available that could win big here. Then again, if Spurrier is hired I'd be all for him to do well.

I certainly don't perceive Spurrier to be racist or anything but has he ever coached a black QB? He always seemed to rotate QB's but they all seemed to be slow white drop back passers. His system with J. Russell and the WR's could be lethal. I have full confidence Jimbo can make the offense just as potent also.

You hit the nail on the head about slow drop back passers who are immobile. It seemed that Spurrier went out of his way to recruit QBs who could not run at all. Spurrier expects his QBs to stand back there for a long time, take a lot of hits, and hit a lot of medium to deep passes that may take a long time to develop.

As long as you have top pass blockers and future 1st round draft choices at WR who get wide open consistently, he looks like a genius. His system failed miserably in the NFL.

Spurrier has got to be creaming his shorts to get the LSU job. Look at the talent at QB and WR. The defense will take care of itself with Muschamp running the show. I am not a Spurrier fan, but the guy can flat out coach the college game.

After only 4 short years, Saban will be forever reveered as one of the greatest coaches in LSU history, and rightfully, he should be.

I did see that Terry Saban was quoted in the Chicago Tribune as stating that they were not going anywhere. I want Nick to stay as long as he wants. I think he still has things he wants to accomplish in the college game. I think he wants to accomplish things in the NFL. Its just a matter of when those things become priortity. With JoE Gibbs coming back at age 63, Saban still has some time to accomplish his NFL goals.
