If Saban is such a genius why did he fail with the Dolphins?

The process is greater than the sum of the parts.

I wonder how good he would be without the best players every year.

He's no les miles but yeah his defense doesn't coach itself. He's not gonna go down as the greatest coach in college football by accident. People just try tear down anyone successful bc it helps them feel better. Plus it's fun to shit on that miserable mf.

Eh it's more of the Phil Jackson type thing. Is Phil Jackson one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time? Of course, but it damn sure didn't hurt to have the best players.

Getting the best players is part of the total package. Bill Arnsbarger was a good coach for us, but didn't give a diddly-squat about recruiting. Les...great recruiter, couldn't coach 'em up. Saban's great cuz he can do both.

That doesn't answer the question in my extremely hypothetical scenario though.

Like I said it's a way for those who hate them to feel better about themselves. Questioning Saban at this point is like questioning belichick.

Yeah it could be, it would be interesting to see though considering he wasn't a god at Michigan State, or Miami, he was really good at LSU but wasn't a god here either.
