while i agree with this alot we also have to realize that if we don't keep our standards high we will fall back into mediocrity
Of course. The chances of getting three straight coaches who recruit consistently at the top levels is slim. The next LSU coach, whether tomorrow or five years from now, will be expected to have a top-5 recruiting reputation. That's a very short list of men who already have good jobs where they are not on the hot seat for averaging 10 wins a season.
This is what sparks the fear in many LSU fans. The fear that at the drop of the HAT we could end up back where we were, a program with a very passionate fan base that just can't ever seem to get over the hump. We have now made it over the hump and no body wants to go back. A 2 yr slip stirs up those emotions that make some believe that is where we are headed again. A very legit fear and one that only Miles can make go away.
When did our standards fall? I do not seem to remember Miles saying that he enjoyed the 2008 2009 seasons.
Yeah, Nebraska once tried to keep their standards high and fired a 9-3 coach.. Wonder how that worked out for them..
You only mention Mike Sherman to make us laugh. How many former NFL coaches have to flop in college? Gary Patterson would bring a defensive mind set that BR has not seen in almost 30 years.
I believe his defense finished first for the second year in a row, he also had a 1st and 2nd round draft pick this year. I guess the NFL thinks Jerry Hughes and Darryl Washington have talent.........and they both play defense.
Thats two players off the last team. The talent might be better but the coaching based on performance is not, and its not even close. If "talent" does not result in wins, what does that say about that "talent"?
That's the point, You give a great defensive mind like Patterson access to better talent and he could do amazing things.
