    Mike Riley, Oregon State. Dude can flat out coach and does more with less than anyone in the country. If he had a field goal kicker a few years back he would have beat us at home with less than 1/3 the talent.

    the God-like figure that was our head coach back then would never allow his team to lose to such a lesser talented team. :popcorn:

    I forgot to state clearly before my post one fact, sorry. I want Les Miles to be the coach at LSU for a long time. This thread is a what if thread, and I am simply playing the game and answering the question "If not Miles then who?"

    Here is the quote from the "lucky coach" that night:

    Oregon State kicker misses three PATs

    * Oregon State vs. LSU

    BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU got lucky, and Nick Saban knew it.

    "We've got a lot of work to do as a team," the Tigers' coach said. "I think everyone knows that."

    Oregon State's Alexis Serna missed three extra points Saturday night, including one that would have forced a second overtime, and (No. 3 ESPN/USA Today, No. 4 AP) LSU escaped with a 22-21 victory over the Beavers in the season opener.

    I know I'll get reemed for this, but if I remember correctly, that game was hard to watch. No, not just because of what was happening on the field, but because of the monsoon. In that type of weather and on that soggy of a field, it makes it much easier to beat a more talented team.

    That's what some said after the Penn State loss anyway.

    If I'm not mistaken, that kicker never missed another extra point in his career. :lol:

    I was there for the game and it was a hot day in Baton Rouge. I stayed in my seat and enjoyed the down pour. The game was bad - real bad. LSU had zero O that night - we were really lucky to win it. OSU stayed on our side of the field 1/2 the night. We had one big play called back, which kept ole MO on the other side.

    He went on to be an all american later in his career. The field WAS bad, but it was not like Penn State game, It was just wet. We were way to big and talented too not just run it over them....must have been our coach that screwed it up.
    FYI, there QB was Derrick Anderson who has had a better pro career than our QB that night, though to be fair it was before Russell had to start taking his cough syrup.

    i agree.

    but the revisionist historians around sometimes forget that we had flaws during the previous coaching regime.
