In the early Dale Brown era a friend of mine was a walkon on the BB team. He was friends with one of the first high profile recruits that Dale signed. I forget his name but he was a guard from Connecticut. One day Dale asked him if he would take a rent a car that Dale had back to the rental agency and turn it in. Dale told him to be sure to clean out the glove compartment before he turned the car in. My friend rode with him and when the guy opened the glove compartment there was an envelope with $500 in cash inside with the players name on it.

i went to HS with fess irvin and I saw how someone mentioned that nice 300zx he had. the thing was nice which he happened to get at the end of his sr yr..... I knew him very well and we played city ball on same team... our coach was very good...ok pass to fess. break.
that was our playbook. He was very smart and graduated honors and his parents were great....was sorry to see him miss those free throws in the NCAA trny... still haunts me.


anyone have any stories about tests? ever recall players showing up on days of tests in those large classes with it filled out already? i had quite a few of those.

 

Check the police records...Johnny Jones I believe it was had his hotel room "broken into" in Gulport, Mississippi, while on a recruiting visit...

What was stolen? Why, none other than $10,000 cash...

Anybody remember the player he was there to recruit? Hmmm...

 

Thought I saw recently that Johnny Jones was coaching at North Texas, the school that Shawnson Johnson transferred to. Is that the same Johnny Jones? Coincidence? How did S. Johnson play this year?

Yep, that's the johnny jones that we all know. Shawnson Johnson averaged about 14 points per game this year at North Texas.

 

I sat next to him one night at Duvic's while he was getting a load on. If nothing else, he's seen a lot of things and he does tell some interesting stories.

 

I had a few classes with Trev Faulk and that kid NEVER missed a class, was always exceptionally prepared and studied his tail off - his leaving early came as a real shock to me...

One running back in particular had several classes with me and he always told me that he only needed to know the answer to one question on the test - the name blank - in order to get an A.
