if duhon and mouton(both from louisiana) came to LSU, they would have 3 NC rings....

If if were a fifth, then we'd all be drunker than John Mahaffey at Pastimes...

But, we're not, they didn't come here, and we're mediocre...

Speaking of John Mahaffey, One time I was in the Patio Lounge on Jefferson Highway near Essen and Drusilla Lanes. The TV was tuned to WBRZ for the news with anchorman John Mahaffey. The news broadcast was over at 10:30 and at 10:35 Mahaffey walked through the door. I know the news is done live so how he got there that fast I'll never know.

Chris Jackson came to LSU without his mother's signature on the LOI. She refused to sign. He turned 18 and came anyway. He was not bought by LSU. Chris Duhon was bought by Duke.

I remember an article in The Advocate, back when Dale Brown had been at LSU for ust a couple of years. There was a player from NO in the 6'8"- 6'-10" range that was highly recruited. According to the writer this kids parents came to see Dale and wanted $10 K plus tickets and transportation to all the away games in exchange for the signature of their son. The writer indicated that LSU did not have the fan support to even consider such a request. He stated theat the player eventually signed with a Mid West school that had a huge fan base.
Interesting that at the end of the season Kentucky was in the final four. The TV announcers were talking about Rick Robey, a Freshman at Kentucky. They mentioned that Robey's parents had attended every Kentucky game that year except one. Immediately I thought of the article in the Advocate. I have no idea if Robey was the guy, but I remember as a Tiger fan being very disappointed when he didn't sign with LSU. Since Kentucky won a NCAA Championship while he was there it could have been money well spent. A few years later they were caught sending money to California as a payoff for recruiting a guy named Mills.

So how did CJ's Mom get that cushy high paying job in Baton Rouge? Before CJ signed with LSU Jaqueline Jackson was an uneducated single mom who worked at minumum wage type jobs to eke out a meager existence. She had no qualifications whatsoever to obtain employment beyond flipping burgers. Whether CJ signed with LSU against his mothers wishes because she was holding out for the best deal or not the fact is that she was taken care of by somebody close to the LSU program.

Off topic, but I see that Bengal B has passed me up in number of posts. I humbly pass the torch. I shudder, however, to think I have to read another thousand or so Sourdough posts as he desperately goes for the lead.

I can tell you of an instance I witnessed firsthand. In the spring of 1989, I was a senior at LSU, and was working full-time at Dillard's in Cortana Mall to
help pay for school. Chris Jackson and Vernel Singleton, both of whom had just concluded their freshman year, came into the store one Saturday afternoon. The two of them made a beeline for the Polo section of the store.
An hour later, I saw them walk out of the store each carrying two big shopping bags stuffed full of Polo clothing and accessories under their arms. Now, I'm sure you know, Polo, being a Ralph Lauren line, ain't exactly WalMart priced merchandise. I was told that they spent about $2000 each in that department. Now where do two poor college kids get that kind of jack
    to spend on clothes?

Dale Brown didn't buy and pay for Chris Jackson? Sure. Tell me another one.

I don't think you guys even recruited Mouton. As far as I know, the only two major schools going after him were Texas and Purdue.

I worked for the athletic dept for many years and witnessed first-hand numerous times that many players (and not even good ones) would routinely get cash in the mail. especially on birthdays, man you should have seen how many envelopes they'd get. some players also told me that it wasnt uncommon for fans to give players jewelry at football games (watches and rings that the fans had on them).

both vernel and cj had cute little sports cars during their playing days.
