Re: Even though the game would be our 2nd nationally televised game (most likely thei Can you tell me what they did? I don't recall hearing about that. I agree that a gesture is appropriate. Nothing overboard, but LSU should definately acknowledge what VT has been through. I really like the idea of the 32 empty seats with roses on them.
Re: Even though the game would be our 2nd nationally televised game (most likely thei Yeah, Bertman will really be up for 32 empty seats. You donating your seats? Let the boo-hooing begin. The best tribute would be a nice ass-whipping for VT. Screw 'em.
Re: Even though the game would be our 2nd nationally televised game (most likely thei None of us know what Bertman will or will not go for, but to say "screw 'em" four days after a massive tragedy is just plain cold-hearted. I want to beat them, badly if possible, in September, but let's not downplay what has just happened. It's a national tragedy, and we should be understanding of that, especially since Louisiana is still stinging from our own tragedy with Katrina.
I like the idea and would participate. But then my thoughts would shift quickly to how we were embarrassed on the field and how poorly LSU fans were treated before, during, and especially after the game by a bunch of classless Hokie fans in Blacksburg. I want to put a serious ass whipping on them after that.
Re: Even though the game would be our 2nd nationally televised game (most likely thei Actually, I would. The cost for non-conference games is, what, $40? Times 32 is $1280, plus any administrative charges. I'd fork over most of that amount myself if someone could arrange to have the seats together in the visitors section. I'm not cheap, and I'm not an *******, nor am I an idiot. I seriously doubt that Bertman is any of those things either (well, maybe a little cheap sometimes). If he wouldn't honor VT for purely altruistic reasons, he's smart enough to understand the valuable PR aspects of a visible but tasteful tribute during what will surely be a nationally-televised game.
Re: Even though the game would be our 2nd nationally televised game (most likely thei One post too many for you. Go away.
Re: Even though the game would be our 2nd nationally televised game (most likely thei What a CRAPPY start for you, pal. Not even a week since this senseless tragedy and you post THIS garbage?
Re: Even though the game would be our 2nd nationally televised game (most likely thei Damn score, how many screennames do you have?
Re: Even though the game would be our 2nd nationally televised game (most likely thei Cynicism has many names. :thumb:
I agree that something should be done as a tribute, I also agree that the whole "5 months away" thing should be taken into consideration. Some one mentioned that with the game coming at the start of the Fall semester that the media would be around, more than likely opening old wounds. So my question is; Should we make a big show of things and deepen the reopened wounds? For the people who want to do these grand gestures; your heart is in the right place but it is also blocking common sense. I'm just thinking about the aftermath of Katrina when it seemed like, even months after the storm people were making a big show of things. It was great a few weeks after the storm, but it got to a point where it felt like people were making the gestures more because they felt like they needed to or to make them feel like they were doing something. It was emotional exhibitionism that made me feel really uncomfortable when I just wanted to be treated like everyone else. People have some good ideas; painting the field, empty seats, spotting VT a few touchdowns... but there has to be a point where you step back and look at what you are saying. At what point does it stop being a contest to see who comes up with the biggest, grandest "memorial"? Yeah, AZ did some pretty impressive stuff, but that was also a week or so after, making it a completly different situtation. In a sense, it was kind of the first big public memorial event. Really, I think that all that needs to be done is a simple moment of silence or maybe have both bands play together. Simple, understated... If you want to do more, if you see a VT fan on campus invite them to your tailgate and show them a good time. Don't treat them like fellow football fans who just want to have a good time, eat some great food and have a beer. Something like that would do the most good.
