in a round about way they most certainly do. :hihi: but i don't want to get into semantics.

but seriously, i think CG could be the real deal, but we STILL NEED SOME COACHING THAT CAN DEVELOP QBs!!!! if we had that then we would be seeing different QBs in jefferson and lee right now.

    1. Agreed. He'll be a sophomore next year though. One more year under the system and :thumb:

    2. There was actually a good bit of hype around him. Unfortunately.. the services miss players sometimes. Think Mt. Cody. He showed he's the best passing QB on our team in the spring.. and he's pretty much has the same running ability as Jefferson.

    3. He's physically pretty far ahead of Jefferson with mechanics and arm strength. I agree that we should wait another year, but he should be seeing snaps asap. Besides, he didn't say he wanted the job given to him.. he wanted him to win it. If he wins it he'll be ready.

AGREE! Jefferson was loved when HE was on the bench, and rightfully so. All of the QB recruits have talent and capability. Lately they've been advanced to playing time too soon. Ryan Perrilloux impact.

I believe that GC has huge potential but that it will be a mistake to make him the full time starter too soon. The learning curve is too great. In large part, tha's what happened to Lee and JJ.

I for one have not given up on JJ yet. I believe he has what it takes........if he's coached well and matures as a player.

True sophomore 19 year old QB has hit his ceiling already? Jeez, I hope not. And I thought we all agreed not to go through any more growing pains at QB.

We're too talented elsewhere to ask another first year QB to learn on the job. Jefferson has put in the work, give him the offseason and spring practice to prepare himself and then let's see what he's got as a junior.

Far too early to talk about ceilings IMO when talking about a player with such physical ability.

A little off subject, but why do we continue to put the ball in in the hands of an inexperienced QB to try and win games. The last two years we have had experienced veteran running backs that were averaging over 5 yrds a carry. I like throwing it when it is effective. Jefferson kept the ball 104 times this year averaging 1.5 yrds a carry.

I don't think Jefferson reached his ceiling...in fact, I think his passing has improved since the last 3 games.

We all keep improving with time. I'm a better cook this week than last week. (no morbidity or mortality this week...Hell yea!).

Seriously, people learn at different rates. Some pick things up quickly and some have a more difficult time learning. But I tell you what, The people that have to work a lot harder than the next guy invariably surpass that guy because of his work habbits. he HAS to try harder more often and develops good habits that propel him past the rest. Case in point Jacob Hester...Probably Drew Brees too.

How many times have we seen people with all the talent in the world blow it by never getting any better?
    (Jefferson is getting better.)

I would definitely agree with this. Jefferson, despite his struggles in the pocket, has shown flashes of greatness at times. And I think that we can all agree that his development and performance this year was stifled tremendously by horrid, horrid offensive coordinating. The good news is that things like pocket presence can be corrected. He's got good mobility, so there's no reason to think that he can't be taught to move around in the pocket a little bit better. This is also the kind of thing that comes with experience.

He's got a good enough arm, can move the chains with his feet when things break down, and doesn't turn the ball over a lot. To suggest that he's hit his ceiling is incredibly premature.

Making a case for a guy with zero collegiate experience to man the ship next year, when we have a very legitimate shot at the SEC championship, is pretty capricious and devoid of perspective. But fans can be exceptionally fickle, I suppose. And I think that holds particularly true for the OP. ;)

However, I do think that Miles should make a concerted effort to bring Garrett along. This means getting him in game situations where he can get legitimate reps, yet not risk anything by doing so. Having him come in and hand the ball off ten times at the end of the McNeese game ain't gonna cut it. He needs to be worked in effectively so that he can be better prepared to take over should Jefferson get injured. My biggest complaint about Miles is his inability to get his younger players good experience before they're upperclassmen. I can only hope that he has learned his lesson by now with our QB struggles the past 2 years.

I just hope we don't resort to a dual QB system.

I still can't believe that Bert Jones had to split playing time with Paul Lyons.
