he's not the starting quarterback. that's what he has over JJ for some of these people.

    1. He's young. LSU has played four first-year starters at QB in the last three years. We don't need to go through that again.

    2. He's unheralded. Someone with the stuff to start as a redshirt freshman would have made a bigger mark in high school.

    3. If he had the stuff, he would be playing already. In time he could be a great QB, but he has to earn it first.

    I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Miles' propensity to go down with the ship with his upper classmen will once again trump what might be best for this team.

I have, but only in scrimmages, and that was kind of limited. He's pretty good, some say he may be the best QB on the team. Of course, lots of people say lots of things.

Guy has an absolute Russell-like cannon for an arm; he also is pretty mobile for his size.. But overall, he's a big guy and a classic pocket passer, and word is he's incredibly well versed in the game.

All that said, I've seen him play a few scrimmages and he looked great as far as his throwing mechanics, pocket presence, etc.. I don't know how accurate he is, but if he is it very well could be a tough time for JJ to compete with him next fall. I did see him throw a couple int's at the scrimmages, but with Peterson and company hanging out in the defensive backfield, you're gonna have that.

As CParso stated before, what JJ has over him I think is that he's got some experience under his belt. We'll see if that's enough.

A few months ago, I went through the teams that made it into the BCS title game since the BCS came into existence about 11 years ago. Without exception, they had starting quarterbacks who were either juniors or seniors. Obviously that doesn't mean that a team without a junior or senior quarterback can reach the title game - until 2007 no team with more than one loss had done so, so things can change. I just think it's harder to do so without an experienced quarterback taking most of the snaps.

He is on the bench, therefore he is well-liked.

my best case scenario is that garrett pushes him hard in spring and maybe is even named #1 on depth chart for a time but JJ to overtake him. i too believe experience is invaluable. it would be different if jj had a low ceiling, say like randall or hatch or clausen.
