Yeah, I mean, group mentality and ganging up on people is fun, yo. It can be just like in middle school, when everyone teamed up on those geeky kids (who are now our bosses), yo. It's too much fun to feel accepted on an anonymous internet gathering point, yo.
Contained Chaos, can you truly imagine any leftwinger getting aroused to the point of anger and screaming "you're a freakin' moron" or "you're an idiot" or whining about being "inflamed" if a rightwinger had written "thanks for making us safer, Bill" in a sarcastic tone? I can't. In fact, I sat through these message boards in their infancy when people on the right were saying very nasty things about Bill Clinton and his wife, and I certainly don't recall any Clinton supporters flying off the handle and whining about being "inflamed." We're not only dealing with two different political philosophies here... we're dealing with two different types of brain patterns.... brain patterns which play a large part in determining those political philosophies in the first place.
not true. its nothing to do with group mentality. for example, everyone that replies yet happen to have the same belief that maybe your reasoning is often stupid could be onto something. Its not like anyone feels someone else will be their friend because another agrees. they simply share the same opinion that, i.e., you're a moron. (simply a hypothetical) A spade is sometimes simply that. A spade. And regulars here usually do a good job spotting one. no one here simply waltzes in and gains respect whether its anonymous or not. Whether you want it or not, people gain credibility or lose it by the content of their posts. Or at least others learn what to expect when they see that person's name attached to a thread. people know when they see my name and a post, a naked woman is usually attached. some eventually force you to ignore them altogether and go away. its simply darwinism in print. the weak and stupid eventually die out. martin is the atheist here amongst the catholic southern-right. people hate his belief or lack of more than anything else ever mentioned here. yet, he's one of the better contributors though hardly anyone agrees with a damned thing he says on that subject. many of your posts you think are so well thought-out in such debates are are so illogical and lacking substance you fail to realize it. You then try to turn it into a personal attack for one reason or another. hence, people call you out on it. you should quit trying to tell people you can think and simply prove it because its obvious you talk a lot yet say very little. anyhow, that's my advice to you. take it or leave it.
Shows how much you've been paying attention, tirk. It is extremely rare that I initiate the personal attacks. Hell, you do it to me all the time without even haven participated in whatever conversation. You'll just pop in randomly and smart off about how much I talk.:dis: I'm sorry that you think my posts are so full of holes. If you really feel that way, perhaps illustrate it when you see it. Otherwise, what you're telling me now is mererly a regergitation of the same dogmatic nonsense to which I was originally referring. Remember, logic and substance are not qualified by your subjective assertions. When I post things in defense of an argument, I do, in fact, think it out. I've held my own with the best of them, and as such, have learned to be very careful about that type of thing. A lawyer friend of mine and I used to duke it out constantly about the war. If anything will teach you to cover your ass, it's arguing with a lawyer. Just because you do not agree with the content does not make it 'illogical'. You mentioned holding marting in such high regards, despite the fact that you disagree with him. I'm willing to bet that you feel his posts are illogically based and full of holes, as well. The bottom line is, of course the extreme minorities' opinions are going to be regarded as illogical and lacking in substance. That's the very nature of the beast. You seem pretty intelligent, tirk. I'm surprised you didn't know that.
Honestly? Yes. I've seen it happen plenty of times. It cuts both ways. But, the polarization that has taken place in this country over the past few years is absolutely unprecendented. And it just so happens that it has been initiated by the right ('if you're not for us, you're a terrorist'). Therefore, I understand where you're coming from. The left has has to be on the defensive the basically entire time, so I can see how the situation could be misconstued. The right has waged an all-out, dirty war on the left. Rather than working together in a bi-partisan manner, they completely demonize the other side, as if it has no business in modern day society.
You don't see the crazy anti-war activists in everyones faces? You don't see the crazy left-wing kook gay activists shoving their fingers in everyones faces? Your whole party, or the liberal Democrats are no more....your party has been hijacked by the extreme left-wing kook movement and it's showing with your dismal performance in national elections. It's only going to get worse. The people with the most closed-minded outlooks are the ones pretending to be the most open-minded.
I wish I knew who hijacked the Republican party. On the one hand, the extreme right seems to dominate some issues, while the other odd group tries to grow government to heretofore unseen proportions (in the US.)
I'll tell you who's hijacked the Republican Party.........spineless, moderates....that's who. Spineless weasels like Richard Baker and Arlen Spector who won't stand up for the Constitution and what's right because they are afraid of losing their cushy lifestyle.
no because he makes points with facts and logical thoughts which refute religion as a whole. most regular posters here disagree all the time about most everything yet are rarely regarded as illogical or lacking substance. there's a reason for that. also, opinions often become the minority due to its own lack of substance. just because its extreme doesn't mean it was dismissed because you think its different. we have a pretty smart group here.
