A: don't think it's that they "like" a mobile qb. it's that neither lee nor jefferson have "it" in the pocket as a qb. jefferson's mobility at least gives him something to work with. lee on the other hand, doesn't have that extra option, so when he's off, well, he's off.
I mean going forward. I still think a competent OC can turn Lee into a decent QB. The sky will fall if we get talented kids like Rivers and Mettenberger, and Gary Crowton is still our QB coach. Get him out of the equation, and replace him with a proven QB coach, and our future at the position is fairly bright.
Well that's still a lot of big ifs. If Crowton is replaced. If Miles finds a decent replacement and if we actually sign and keep some better QB's. The sky may not be falling on the future at QB but it's teetering on the brink.
While I completely agree I "hope" that maybe a change of OC and QB coach can will be able to help JLee become a competent QB. I seriously think the way Miles has handled Lee and the inability it seems for our QB coaches to help teach these guys has really hurt him, and JJ for that matter. I still believe JLee has the greatest potential at being a good QB between the two; He's simply very hot and cold. At this point, who knows what either one of these guys psyche is really like. LSU has handled our QB situation pretty darn awful since Flynn graduated. Whether right or wrong about what has happened is insignificant. We're currently in a bad position at QB, but hopefully there is some light at the end of this tunnel.
The ball's in Les' court. I'm sure he knows how dire our QB and offensive situation is and is aware of the fact that both have had a minimal impact on those 10 wins, and isn't going to risk his job on the status quo. We'll have to wait until the new year to see if he takes those first steps.
I know we have been crucifying Crowton the whole year about play calling, but the last 3 games, to me, prove that maybe we were wrong. It seems to me that Crowton called the same plays against Alabama and Ole Miss that he did against Arkansas. The difference is that against Bama and Ole Miss, we had competent QBing. Jefferson played well. When he reverted back into Jefferson against Arkansas, we saw the same bad offense that we did early in the year. In other words, Crowton's system would be fine if he had a competent QB. So, the fact that we don't have a competent QB is a recruiting problem. Now, you could argue that it's Crowton's job to get Jefferson prepared to play, but I would argue that the Bama and Ole Miss game show that Crowton is preparing JJ to play.
I fear that Les Miles is never going to actually do the right thing and play the best QB. It will not surprise me one bit to have Jefferson as the starter next year. In fact I fully expect Jefferson to start next year. He will talk to the media like the QB position is open for competition. However, that is anything but the case. We all know that his allegiance lies with Jefferson no matter what. In his mind he's never even considering starting someone else. Jefferson must have some real black mail material on Les Miles. I can only imagine what it may be. It must be serious though to allow Jefferson to keep running LSU's program into the ground.
