You know, I keep seeing--again and again---mention of a possible QB controversy as a reason to hold down expectations for LSU in 2006. We've seen with our own eyes just how important being ranked in the top 2 preseason can be the past two seasons. My point? If all that stands between a top 2 preseason ranking for LSU is who is the 100% starter going into August practices, then I say name JR the starter and let the chips fall where they may. Otherwise, we risk having voters associate the 2006 LSU team with the 2005 Tennessee team---a very, very bad comparison for LSU. Voters don't like being made to look foolish, so any "LSU=Tenn" comparisons because of the QB situation would only hurt LSU, and hurt us unnecessarily, IMO. RP will have time enough to shine, starting in 2007, if having Les name JR the uneqivocal starter coming out of spring makes us a top two team in September.
I keep seeing that we lose 21 seniors & have all of our toughest games on the road. Maybe that's just me... Not going to happen. Les will name a starter & stick with him through the season, & as long as the starter is named before the season - it will not affect the team. Not naming a starter encourages growth & competition between the 3 QBs, allowing each of them to become better. It also assures LSU of getting the best man on the field. Why we would sacrifice that for a preseason starting point is beyond me. We go out there & win, then we let the chips fall where they may. Going undefeated or even with just 1 loss is a fairly long shot for LSU in 06 anyway, because odd years are when we do the best due to scheduling.
