Exactly. I was thinking it would be smarter to have him just bomb it pretty frequently and hope he connects. He's not only one of the worst QBs I've seen in a while, but he's one of the worst screen passers I've seen. Every screen pass is either pump faked or lobbed, drawing the defense toward the receiver. Totally reckless.
Sigh.... Those that keep up with such things know that I've been defending Lee for most of the season...but the farther in we get the more he seems to prove me wrong. He's taking monumental steps backward. Tulane and Alabama BOTH had him so rattled and confused that he looked like a freshman in High School. How he managed to pass for 7000 yards and 70 TDs in his last two seasons in HS and then went to the Elite 11 camp is beyond me. All I can hang onto now is that SOMEWHERE inside him is a great QB that is begging to get out. Sometimes on rare occasions we get to see him...but mostly he stays bottled up inside. Well, I'm on board now. The Jarrett Lee experiment is over. And yet I fear it's only just begun...
not only that, but the offense has obviously been dumbed way down. i mean coming out of the locker room from halftime, we get the ball, and then run 3 times for a total of 2 yards, then punt. We played on our side of the 50 almost the whole night. There is no killer instinct with this coaching staff. Jarett Lee just amazes me with the throws he makes, i tried and i tried to defend him leading up to this week, saying that alot of his pick 6's have had no bearing on the outcome of the game with the exception of the 2 vs. UGA. But i cant defend him anymore. The first pick, ok byrd got popped and thats just bad luck. 2nd int was just a horribly thrown ball, how a quarterback cant hit Terrance Tolliver is beyond me, dude is huge. 3rd int was horrible because he should have gotten rid of the ball 3 seconds before he did, he saw the blitz coming. 4th pick was absolutely unexcusable, you cannot give a defender a chance in overtime. throw the ball out of the endzone or on the back pylon. I knew that rollout to the right was going to end up burning us. Great plays by TT by the way. Lee was 13 for 34. he completed 4 to the other team. We had more total yards the bama, our defense played the best i have seen them all year except 2nd half vs. USC, and jarett lee blew it. This one hurts a whole hell of alot because it was obvious to me who the more talented and better team was.
Lee just sucks, ray charles can see it. it doesnt matter if it is because he is green or new. lets face it in this new era of college Football kids have to grow up fast. They have to fix errors in a game or less ( half time adjustments ) he might get better each year and probably will, but with fan attendance on the line, big colleges cant afford to play a guy that cant learn quickly. When the fans dont show ( see TENN VOLS & Fulmer ) people upstairs get nervous. And Les will hear it he is no different from any other coach he has a boss too. I think Id play Jefferson a bit even if he sucks too just to show that he is trying to do SOMETHING it might JAR something in LEE"S brain to get his **** together.
I agree that Lee is struggling more than he should be at this point...but comparing Miles to Fulmer? Are we 3-7 all of a sudden? Are we not going to play in January if we beat the remaining three beatable teams on our schedule? The fact is, I think we're right where we should be considering our early season defensive woes and our lack of a QB. We were supposed to lose to Florida and Georgia...they're both better teams than us. We were supposed to lose to Alabama. Aren't they number one and undefeated through the SEC? Didn't they shellack the Georgia team that hung fifty on us? Guys, wake up and get real. They don't call them rebuilding years for nothing. And to think that LSU is immune to them is just plain arrogant. If this is still going on two years from now, you can start questioning CLM. Until then, learn some humility and be proud of the good things your team does and have hope for the future.
I think the thing that is getting most people about Lee is he has shown no improvement in ability since game 1 of this year. I have defended Lee on more than one occasion but expected to start seeing some improvement by now and he is not showing any. We can all say he is a freshman but this is game 8 and he is still not progressing through his reads, does not have understanding of basic secondary movements and coverage. Roll to the right and the safety rolls with you (basic concept) and we still throw into the double coverage for the interception in overtime, killing a chance to get a field goal and killing your team. I CANT DEFEND HIM ANYMORE AND I HOPE HE PROVES ME WRONG along with a lot of other posters on this board. National Champions 2009 Geaux Tigers!!!!!
Why do you think the offense is dumbed down? Could it be that the QB isn't capable of running half of the offense in the play book? No killer instinct???? The staff is trying not to get hit by friendly fire most of the game. Lee is capable of shooting the team in the back on any given play. Half of the offensive playbook has been shelved and they can't get too aggressive because Lee can't handle it. The entire Tiger nation holds its breath every time he drops back to pass and don't tell me you don't too. Crowton has both arms tied behind his back with Lee at QB. No offense or OC would have success with Lee playing the way he has, it's just that simple. Crowton didn't lose his offensive mind or aggressiveness over night, Lee stole it from him.
You know what else I noticed? After Lee blew it in overtime, when he was leaving the field, his jersey looked as clean as it did when he first started. It's not like he didn't have time to throw. I thought the o-line actually played a lot better yesterday, but...
Not to rain on ya'll parade but Chris Mitchell dropped a sure TD pass that was layed perfectly in his hands as well as Byrd and Lafell drops. WRs need to step up play knowing that we have inexperience at the QB position. Yes the turnovers were bad but amazingly enough if we make a couple catches that should have been made we never get into OT because we win by 7 or more. I do agree that Lee hasn't improved but I was expecting to lose 3 or more games this year due to lack of experience at QB and CB. This is a rebuilding year. Sorry, but it is true. I do agree that JJ should get more playing time because you've burned the RS. We'll be much improved next year just keep the faith. :LSU231::helmet::tigerhead
