The bottom line is that something has to give.
We can argue all day long about why Chavis wants to leave, e.g., he's angry over his contract (whether it's money or the clause that he would be compensated 6 months if Miles leaves), he's tired of saving Miles' behind (we can argue the other way as well at times), etc. Seems to me if he wants to leave, let him leave. On the other hand, why would he want to go to a team where a total rebuild on defense is needed. Perhaps it points to some major internal issues. We're not there, so we don't know.
We can debate the pros and cons of Miles as a HC. He has many great attributes, and shortcomings, as well. I'm not going to address the "sunshine pumpers vs. nega-tigers vs. minions" BS, and I'm not going to start listing all of the good and bad.
In keeping with the "bottom line" I mentioned above -- I see two major issues that LSU fans are angry about:
1. The QB situation -- What has been going on at LSU for far too long should not occur at an elite school. Look, I like Miles, but this is maddening. The Perriloux matter was in 2008, and other than one good year from Mettenberger, the quarterback situation has been a debacle. What I would like to know is what gives with Brandon Harris? Is he in the doghouse, immature, does he not know the playbook, does he dog it at practice, etc.?
2. The end of game defense -- Overall, Chavis has been great. However, the end of game defenses in close games must be addressed. It has happened too many times where LSU has a late lead, and either allows the opponent to make the game closer and tighter, or gives up the lead altogether, or what happened yesterday. Is this on Chavis' scheme? Is it on the players for not executing the scheme? It is has happened too much for it be an anomaly.
In any case, these guys know more football than I ever will -- I don't have the answers. I'm sure Miles does not want to get fired, but allowing these issues to continue on a consistent basis are grounds for a pink slip. The Rabalais article may be true to a point, but remember too, they want page views. The mainstream media outlets are competing with dozens of blogs and message boards.
I don't think the sky is falling yet. Miles can make all of this right for 2015.
Peace, and a great 2015 to all of you.
