Stats mean nothing without consideration as to who you are playing. You're defense is pretty dang good, but it's not one of the best in the country. About Chase, what kind of person would be dissapointed with Chase right now!!!! His performance in the ASU game was below par, but it was his first performance with a new coach & new team in a tough game... Personally, I was amazed at how quickly he was able to turn into such a strong force & I am glad we got him.
We'll know more about UT's defense after this week. I think Texas will win because I doubt the Red Raiders will have an answer for V.Young, but will they hold TT to a low score?
And that's not to mention how long it had been since he had actually played in a live football game. 2 years, was it? Yeah, I'd say a little lag time is a given. Considering the torrid pace with which he has progressed, criticism seems utterly foolish,
Our entire dline had played lights out, I do not know how anyone can be dissatisfied with any of them. The only thing we are missing is an incredible DE type that gets 2 sacks a game. To me the most impressive part of our defense is we do not have one guy with most of the tackles like we did with James and Faulk, proving to me that the linemen were not doing there jobs effectively. I aslo like the fact that Laron is not leading the team in tackles, with 2 LB's leading the charge along with 2 dlinemen.
Yeah I still stand behind my statement. Texas has played six games against ULL, Ohio State, Rice, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Colorado. Please tell me what offense is explosive. The big 12 is quickly giving the big east a running for the worst conference in America.
I'm looking for a possible upset if Texas gets into a shoot out with Texas Tech. Texas is ripe for a letdown, and Tech is not going to hold anything back. Texas Tech 38 Shorthorns 31 Texas sinks to number 8 in the polls.
Well, first let's see who the current contenders for "best defense in the country" are. I'd say that it's pretty much between Texas, Miami, Virginia Tech, and Florida State. Let's take a look at the average total offense rank of the opponents of those teams. Texas: 65.5 Miami: 72.3 Va Tech: 87.2 (has not faced an offense above 70th in the nation) FSU: 73.7 (The Citadel is 1-AA, I ranked them as 118th) Alabama: 81 I'm not sure how you can say Texas' defensive numbers don't matter and that they're not possibly (I didn't say they definitely were...I said possibly) one of the best defenses in the country. I wouldn't really say that Texas is ripe for a letdown this week. Gameday will be in town and it's the biggest home game of the year. The team and fans will be pumped up and ready to go. If Texas was ever ripe for a letdown, it would have been this past week against Colorado in a sandwich game between OU and Tech.
Kind of off-topic, but I actually met Chase late Saturday night (more like early Sunday morning) at my brother's apartment complex. Really nice guy, actually sat there and talked to us about the defense for a good bit. He raved about Pellini.
