    you are a genius.

ordinarily i dont like family guy, but once they had a skit like huckleberry finn and peter was huck and he had to call his buddy "N-word jim" or he would get offended. and it was beautiful, because it demonstrated how absurd the controversy about verboten words is. that whole book is packed with crippling condemnations of human nature and the one person that had any sort of loyalty and humanity that huck could count on, whilst everyone else was a miserable idiot, was jim. and people fixate on the word instead of the context.

again, i think we will know racism is dead when can taunt each other without there ever being the slightest worry of violence.

Affirmative action was needed at one time in society dont dismiss history by saying it wasnt. But its about 10-15 years overdue to be scrapped totally.

Its pretty useless now and should be thrown out of any institution.

yeah i have, affirmative action has its faults, but if you think that blacks and mexicans aren't turned down for jobs because of their skin color, you are dead wrong. It was implemented for a reason, and a good one. I work for a staffing agency and i cant even count the number of times in the last 2 years that i have had clients tell me that they only wanted white people.

A white guy not getting a job that he is qualified for, pales in comparison with what blacks and mexicans have had to go through. its not even the same ball park, or league for that matter.

It should be thrown out now, because you can pretty much prove individual cases of employment discrimination. We dont need a generalized program that discriminates against others in order for one group to get ahead. That makes it no better than the history of discrimination in this country.

And what people who benefit from Affirmative Action dont understand is it hurts them more than it helps them. If that company didnt want to hire you because of your color in the first place then what career path do you have with that job. You will have that stigma placed upon you that you arent qualified and you will never get ahead.

Twisted because I dont want to assume, are you comparing the negatives of Affirmative Action to slavery, jim crow, and segregation?

You can never and shouldn't ever forget the past. But how long should you let the past control your future. At some point in time you have to stop letting the past dictate the future and move on while still remembering where you came from. At this point in our society the past still holds a firm grasp on how our future is molded. We are not allowed to move forward freely because the past has a firm grip around our throats pulling us backwards as we struggle mightily to move towards a better future. At what point should we stop letting the past dictate the future? When can we move forward? What grand event or watershed moment does it take?

No it was just an over simplified answer to the above post.

Some of us dont let it control our futures. To use it as an excuse now is pretty lame in my opinion. But I agree with you again, you are completely correct in your post. Its a crutch for alot of people or they use it as excuse for their own failures. Some of it is real, but alot of it is excuses.
However some people openly and blatantly discriminate and we have to overcome that as well. Now matter what kind of watershed moment some people will always be stuck in the past on both sides.

No question. Just a simple statement about you critisizing martin for stirring the pot from the comfort of his home behind a computer while you do the same thing from the comfort of your home behind a computer. Sort of like the pot calling the kettle black, to use and old expresssion
