Damn I didnt see that, clair, personally I would leave from BR and meet your folks where it is they are going.
Well folks, they just issued a mandatory evacuation for MC for tomorrow afternoon. I'll be bugging out to Natchitoches. Everyone take care; talk to you on the other side.
I flooded for that b!tch unlikely at BEST. Lafourche began evacuating today. Terrebonne begins mandatory evacuations at 4 pm tomorrow. My best guess is that wherever the road block is set up will be the farthest you'll get. for Rita 3 years ago, I had to sneak back in.
Game aside...just want to wish safety to all of you in LA. Football is just a game...gotta remember whats important. My dad actually had to cancel a trip to O-town this weekend b/c of that thing ....had to stay close to my grandparents in Kaplan in case that thing gets really bad.
good luck man. I'm hoping this thing avoids MC like the plague. I would much prefer this thing hit Montegut/Pointe-Aux-Chenes with a direct hit. A St. Mary landfall is the absolute worse thing that could happen for Lower Terrebonne. Everyone in low lying areas, DO NOT take any unneccessary chances. We were on the levee in Montegut when it broke for Rita (and that one hit over 200 miles away from us). I watched it collapse. I am telling y'all now, y'all do NOT want to be in the way when that happens!!! It comes through with more force and pressure than anything I have ever seen. Luckily we knew it was about to go, so we pulled everyone working (sandbagging, dropping concrete chunks to absorb the waves, etc.) back to a sturdier section only a couple minutes before it went. This one is calling for much closer landfall, and a good bit larger surge because of that. So for anyone living in low lying coastal areas, if you have the means to leave for higher ground, do it!!
Wow. What happened to you and the rest of everyone working to secure the fort once the levee went? That is, what was the next move y'all made after that, and the next moves y'all made for the rest of the week?
scattered like cockroaches!! people were just getting the hhell outta there. most of the town had already been evacuated. my dad and I went to my grandparents house on much higher ground, and just kinda hung out until the water leveled off a bit. Next day, I waded through the water to go check on my house. Got lucky, and didn't get any water IN the house.
Gustav intensifies again... now a Category 4. 1pm CDT 5 day: New Orleans is likely to call a mandatory evacuation at 7pm tonight. Contraflow will begin at 6am Sunday morning.
