I have a question for you folks. I do not know if any of you have insider information to "be in the know" about this, or if it's been announced. But I am from Lafourche Parish. I am going to the game tomm. My plan was to go back home then evacuate with the family following the game. Will I be allowed ot go home? I've heard the contraflow rumors and stuff, but I just cannot see the state telling people from Houma, Cut Off, Boutte, Thibodaux that they CAN'T go home if they go to the game. Thoughts?
I'd play it safe and prepare as though you won't be able to get home. just me. it would suck, but after 3 years ago I don't expect the gubermint to be messin around with this one.
Check the contra flow maps. Some roads aren't maked for evacuations and most people don't use them. Avoid Interstate and US highways. The road through Pierre Part moved traffic north lightly during katrina because most folks didn't know about it. Go to the state plice site for information on the contraflow, donwload a map, and call them about any road closures. Be aware that driving into an evacuation isn't a good idea. Gasoline will be hard to find, it's running low already from hoarders. You could get into a real bind.
I feel safe in Baton Rouge. If I get stuck here, then I get stuck here. It's no biggie. I'm still "the baby", and my parents want me there.
As mentioned above, you should be able to work your way back down as long as you don't use I-10 for any of it.
This was from last night: http://www.wwltv.com/topstories/stories/wwl082908tpLafourcheparish.238dce29.html Looks like you have a choice of either the game, or leaving tonight to head home.
Contraflow is slated to go into effect at 6pm Saturday. I dont see why you would not have plenty of time to get home after the game being that kickoff is 10am. And I would imagine that Espn Classic wont have as many commericals this could very well be the quickest game in the history of modern football!
