The worst one I remember was Audrey in 1957. Obviously we didn't have the technology & warnings back then that we have today. It intensified very quickly and snuck up on Cameron. Most of the residents ignored warnings to leave and as a result over 400 were killed. I remember the intense rain and lack of power like it was yesterday.
Dad talks about that one often...I think the only building in Cameron that survived was the court house
Live webcam offshore for Florence Comment from another site. "Wouldn't that be cool if Bodhi went by on a surfboard?"
I remember hearing months after the storm that numerous bodies still hadn't been recovered. Given the water and marshes surrounding Cameron that's easy to believe.
I like earthquakes, up to a point. Extreme heat and humidity with no power would suck,.. I was thinking more along the lines of, a nice hotel with a good view.
The really strange thing about hurricanes, in my experience, is that in the immediate aftermath the weather is fantastic. You get a nasty storm blow through in the hottest part of September, and for about 3 days after its passed, you couldn't ask for nicer weather.
