Well, I do believe a "flat tax" is the way to go, but, when dude got on TV and was talking about one for %20, he lost me.

It would take a 30% sales tax to make Huckabees plan work, maybe more. By shifting taxes from what you make to what you spend, it would also shift more burden onto the working man and away from the idle rich. people whose income is primarily their salary will spend a far greater percentage of their wealth on things that must be purchased, like housing, food, health care, clothing, gasoline and vehicles.

Those really rich people who make the bulk of their income on dividends, real estate, rent, and capital gains would get to keep a far higher percentage of their incomes to invest and get even wealthier and the gap between the rich and the middle class continues to grow.

you left out the part about the rebates. something like the first $30000 comes back to you (they call it a "prebate"). so those that spend no more than $30K/yr pay no taxes (well, federal).

i think one of the main reason to have the fair tax is to make sure rich pay their share---they currently get a break on capital gains and payroll taxes.

of course, rich people that dont consume much will pay little tax.

no way im ever gonna vote for a preacher, so consider me a hostile witness.

    1. so. sometimes taxes need to be raised. especially if they were too low or unfair to begin with

    2. those illegal aliens also pay taxes, so the real question is--did they take more than they paid?----btw if this is regarding the scholarships for ark students (illegal or not), its a great idea. his state will benefit from keeping educated, intelligent, motivated, people in his state over the long run. (listen up louisiana)

    3. so. how bout as a percentage? anyway, the vast majority of those did not let people out of jail---just cleared their record. say someone commits a felony at 19, stays in jail 10 years, is a good citizen for 10 more yet cant get a decent job because of zero tolerance policies by some employers. i commend him for many of those. the bad pardons are the ones for friends or friends of friends.

    4. he didnt. the parole board did. besides, i have a question about that one. did you see that the guy was castrated in prison? doesnt necessarily mean he cant rape anymore but youd think the motivation would be gone.

    5. most protestants do/ or should based on doctrine.

    6. see response to 5

    7. dont know what youre talking about

    8. unfortunately not too uncommon on the gop side

    9. well, it was 15 yrs ago. he was behind the times--what do you expect from a preacher man?

    7. Christian theologians some time ago came up with a Just War Theory, and preemptive war is out. Paul believes in the Just War Theory.

    8. Well, that don't make it ok.

    9. See 8.

A lot of dirt has been brought up in relation with Huckabee, but I don't think I'd call the guy a kook. That's the same crap that folks say about Paul, which I believe is totally unfair, and mostly a cop out for folks who don't want to delve to deep into a subject. Often I get the feeling that the media really has it out for Paul - perhaps fox and the neocons are nervous.

I am disturbed that Huckabee recently gave a sermon; I think that's a bad precedent for a presidential candidate. I also don't like the herd of Christian fundamentalists that will flock with Huckabee (despite Paul, at least IMO, doing a better job of following the path of Christ - note - I'm not a hardcore Christian fundamentalist).

Not to get off subject, but Louisiana is one of the few states to provide free higher education tuition for qualified high school kids. The state has spent millions and it's a very successful program. One of the few things we've done right in this state.

Unfortunately, you gotta have jobs for these kids once they graduate, which we don't have in this state.

Now that we're further along in the nomination process, IMO it is becoming more and more apparent that a DEM will win the general election. If Rudy's plan to ride a Florida victory into Super Tuesday falls flat and the Republicans are left with either McCain or Hucky against either Hillary or Osama, then the Republicans are doomed.

Hillary or Osama will beat McCain or Huckabee IMO. The Republican's chance was either Romney or Rudy but both seem to be fading and not getting through.

I didn't see another thread to post this in but I find it very interesting what has happened to the Republican party from a demographic standpoint. Until the Republican's can find a conservative candidate who can speak, it's doomed.

I'm conservative and can call myself a Republican less and less.

Huckaby or Romney lose to anyone. Rudy and McCain both lose versus Hillary, BUT if Obama is the democrat, either one might take enough moderate votes away from the DEMS to eke out a win.

Wow do you really have to insult the mans name. for god sake, attack his policy and his views, but dont slander a person just to do so cause you heard or read it somewhere on Fox news or some other putrid conservative publication.
